@Zonuss Westerners might call it "the Ukraine," but as the other user explained, this is incorrect. It would be like saying "the Russia" or "the China." Just because a lot of people use the wrong term doesn't make it acceptable.
We do say "the United States" or "the United Kingdom" but that's because those countries' names begin with an adjective. It would be incorrect to say "the New York" or "the England."
@Yulianna I confess that I thought it was "the Ukraine" until it was in the news more after Trump's attempt to coerce Zelensky to announce the fake investigation into Joe Biden a few years ago. Once it was explained why the correct name is "Ukraine," I've been using that and correcting people who still add "the." You definitely see the correct name used most of the time now, our friend notwithstanding.
@Jenny1234 Mexico is a culture to be respected. But all countries are different. Canada is I assume more laid back and less dangerous. Note I said less. 🙂
@Zonuss I do respect it but it’s a very male dominated society. The men can be very disrespectful, even to female tourists like me, unless they are about to make money off you ie a tip or you are buying something from them. I feel badly for the women
I am in Wales, one of the countries in the UK. We don't have a president. Our first minister is Mark Drakeford, but our pariament only has so much power. Our Prime Minister, unfortunately id the UK PM Boris Johnson.
@Thinkerbell if thePM died, the deputy PM would take over. But ( dont ask me why) right now, Boris IS still PM until the Tory party elect a new leader...they that person will be the new PM. Odd indeed...buy thats the way it is.
@BittersweetPotato True, but the PM is not the head of state, The PM is Anthony Albanese, and the Governor General is David Hurley, The Governor General acts as the Head of State.
Canada. No presidents here! Our head of state is Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, ably represented here by Governor General Mary Simon. Our head of government is Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
@Zonuss only if you count Greenland as Europe :) The Inuit are indigenous to the Arctic ranging from Siberia west to Greenland, so primarily North American.
@Zonuss Generally our Governors General are expected to be bilingual in English and French. She is working on her French, but is fluent in English and Inuktitut.
