What is your opinion on yearly car state inspection

Some states only require to be inspected when you buy it.

Some states don’t have any inspection at all some states are every two years or every three years.

In Illinois we have to do “emissions “ testing. Huge waste of time and $$
braveheart21 · 61-69, M
In the UK our cas are tested every year and they are off the road until repaired if faults are found... Emissions are stricter now.. Its a long list of checks on every car
sally1981 · 41-45, F
@braveheart21 The UK is far to strict compaired to other Countries.
Dlrannie · 31-35, F
@braveheart21 Not for their first 3 years on the road 🙂
braveheart21 · 61-69, M
Even that could be changing as i talk to friends in the trade... Even new cars could be in every year soon @Dlrannie

Just another way government to take your money. I lived in Nevada, Tennessee, and California. Nevada and Tennessee is every year California it’s every other year
ClassicRocker · 56-60, M
I am for it. You would not believe some of the unsafe vehicles on the roads today. Driving is a privilege, not a right and part of that is the responsibility needed to keep a vehicle properly maintained.
Jonjdw · 46-50, M
@ClassicRocker @Fluffybull what about states that don’t do it. If it was so bad every state would be doing it.
ClassicRocker · 56-60, M
@Jonjdw That's the responsibility of the state to make it a law but it does not and should not be a reason for the vehicle owner to ignore the road worthiness of their own vehicle.
Jonjdw · 46-50, M
@ClassicRocker where I live the roads are second worst in the country. They’re saying around here in my state is that it’s OK to not have the roads worthy for my vehicle but my vehicle must be road worthy on the road.

It a scam in my state we know it. I used to take my vehicle to a place that didn’t even look at it.

And a lot of other places in my state just make sure the tires are good and the lights work.

Remember nothing is as it seems.

Just like in my state there’s a law of family medical leave act
Yet in my state an employer can fire you for any reason. So that law means nothing here

I can tell when I'm in a state without inspections. Lots of missing headlights and taillights. It makes me wonder if their brakes work.
Jonjdw · 46-50, M
@exexec I understand but if it was a real problem your state could make it law. And then they could make money off of it like my state. I wonder why they don’t.
exexec · 61-69, C
@Jonjdw Good question.
LunarOrbit · 56-60, M
I dont agree with yearly inspections.

I believe the mileage and year should dictate inspections. Like every 5 years or 50,000 miles etc
it feels like a tax scam bundled up in an illusionary safety blanket to me.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
Where I live so long as the car is registered and insured you don't need an inspection until it is 20 years old at which time it is classified as an antique. My uncle let his 1964 pickup become an antique. It had 2800 miles on the odometer.
fun4us2b · M
On newer cars it's annoying, but for older cars, it make sense to make sure tires, pollution and safety devices are in normal working order...I guess it's also helpful to insurers..
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
It's every year after the vehicle is two years old. Some are slobs who refuse to maintain their vehicles, requiring inspections and fees for the state.
Jonjdw · 46-50, M
@Crazywaterspring I’m sure. But if it was such a big problem you think you would hear more about bad cars causing accidents.

Every state would be heavily involved in keeping track of their cars on the roads

In my state there are garages that don’t really inspect them anyways. Some just check tires and lights and that’s good.

One inspection garage I went to that just checks tires and lights she said she’s from the south and down their cars are falling apart and rusted through and it’s OK
It’s stupid. They only check for emissions where I live. I had a shit car that passed because it didn’t release any toxins lol so it’s really pointless
Metal rusts/fails, wiring gets damaged, I agree with yearly vehicle inspections
Jonjdw · 46-50, M
@checkoutanytime I wonder why not all states would have something that’s so apparently important. And not just a money making scheme
Jeffrey53 · 51-55, M
If you have check engine light on it’s automatic fail. Then you pay arm an leg to fix it
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
Like wearing a mask when you are healthy.
DDonde · 31-35, M
Eh probably for the best to have it. Don't like being forced by the govt to pay money to private business though.
