Is California a good place to live?

I’ve been thinking about moving there once I get done with college.
StevetheSleeve · 31-35, M
I’ve enjoy living in California. There are a lot of fun things to do. Every place has its issues but for quality of life California is nice.

It's a great place to live. Only state I'd live in. People from outside are fed a lot of nonsense. Or they think the state is nothing but San Francisco and L.A. It's not. Not by a long shot. Every conceivable lifestyle can be found here. The difference with a lot of states is that there aren't vast areas where everyone works from the same handbook. You can be gay or a minority pretty much anywhere and people won't blink.
Some things are more expensive, like gas and housing in the cities and their suburbs, but it's not across the board. But the income is the highest in the West too. What I would consider is location. It's a HUGE state and more people live here, by far, than any other state and there's a reason for that. If you're considering living in a bigger city you do have to hustle. Like people tend to think that L.A. is just a cakewalk where people are mellow but that's not even close. It's a hard city. And vast. But you have access to most everything. And if you dig nature? It's the best. Hands down. Good luck.

Taxes are way too high. Cost of living is outrageous as well. Major municipalities are overrun with crime, drugs and homeless population. It’s a beautiful state which is a shame it’s turned that way.
JesseInTX · 51-55, M
@tindrummer that is the dumbest statement I’ve ever heard here or anywhere. You may be the most ignorant person on SW.
tindrummer · M
@JesseInTX common knowledge - google is your friend
Your insult doesn't make you look any more intelligent - just the opposite
Jeephikelove · 46-50, F
@JesseInTX damn, I love California
dancingtongue · 80-89, M
The state is so diverse in everything -- topography, climate, people, and degree of urbanization from totally rustic to major urban centers -- that you most likely can find a niche that suits you. Just be prepared for sticker shock on cost of living if your goal is the urban or coastal areas.

🤔..............40 Million people, $1.2 million for a 1,550 square foot house........Traffic and more traffic.......2 hour drive to work and two hour drive home from work.........traffic............smog and then more smog..........and then on day when the winds blow the smog away you realize that you live in a valley with hills on the side......and more traffic..........
Ynotisay · M
@Jimmy2016 Did you visit CA once or did you possibly live in one small area and decided that the entire state was like that? Should have got out more dude.
Jimmy2016 · 61-69, M
@Ynotisay I've been all over California when I lived there...........Of course the whole state is not like that, just the metropolitan areas........I would live in places like Lake Tahoe, but not LA, SF, SD areas...............
Ynotisay · M
@Jimmy2016 OK. The metropolitan areas. I live in California and have no connection to any of the things you mentioned. And that's what makes it the "best" state in the country. No matter your lifestyle choice, CA offers it somewhere.
tindrummer · M
Grew up in Texas - California now
Have to hold a six shooter to my head to get me to go back
Ramrod · 46-50, M
I would tell you to do your research first,i have read a lot of not so good things lately.
Monalisaa1986 · 36-40, F
@kaden @Ramrod bull shit stop making up stuff
@Ramrod Right. Because I take all my advice from people who have cars for profile pictures.
@Ramrod Lets guess what color caps the "newscasters" you listen wears??? Could they be red and have "Made in China" labels??
TexChik · F
Nope. You can't afford to live there comfortably unless you come from a wealthy family or are an illegal alien.
kaden · 22-25
@TexChik sounds about right
thisguy20 · 41-45, M
Apart from the cost and (unless you are in San Francisco) needing a car, yes it is a great place to live
Everything causes cancer there:
Ynotisay · M
@BrewCityBarfly Because it's better to not be aware of products that may cause cancer. Don't want informed people. That's no good.
@Ynotisay Thank you !
Not really. There's this horrible cliff next to the good beaches that's always falling down. There's actually a nuclear power plant right on the beach with a dramatic fault line running right under it, called San Onofre, and that's in one of the best parts.
GlitterEater · 36-40, F
Probably not.
SW-User
Might be a major earthquake there sometime soon.
SW-User
@Monalisaa1986 I read in an article it's been like 300 years since a major one, so it is taking a long time
Monalisaa1986 · 36-40, F
@SW-User yes it’s not going to happen
SW-User
@Monalisaa1986 We wouldn't want tourism to be effected.
likesnatural · 70-79, M
If you drive a fossil fuel driven, the government hates you! They are trying to punish those drive them. Their environmental laws are chasing people out.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
It’s very expensive. What do you want to do?
kaden · 22-25
@Bumbles I honestly haven’t thought about it yet
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@kaden I live in So Cal and used to live in the Bay Area…if u have any questions!
SW-User
No climate change is fucking that state up beyond repair
Have you considered other states?
kaden · 22-25
@soar2newhighs yeah, Texas is my second choice.. I’ve actually been there twice so I might have a better chance at it than cali
@kaden I was in Texas in my military service and am biased. I enjoyed my time there. Consider your current education and desired future work and see how Texas would fit in.
Bearsfan67 · 56-60, M
I love California but no way I could afford to live there.
Dino11 · M
It is, just have a good income.
msros · F
Very pricey
tindrummer · M
@msros Part of it is but a lot of areas away from big cities aren't.
FreestyleArt · 31-35, M

Monalisaa1986 · 36-40, F
@kaden I don’t know what that is but I think that’s a nice place if you have the money
Dino11 · M
@kaden good choice, average home price
$650,000
As beautiful California is, politically and culturally it's extremely authortarian.
