The state is so diverse in everything -- topography, climate, people, and degree of urbanization from totally rustic to major urban centers -- that you most likely can find a niche that suits you. Just be prepared for sticker shock on cost of living if your goal is the urban or coastal areas.
Taxes are way too high. Cost of living is outrageous as well. Major municipalities are overrun with crime, drugs and homeless population. It’s a beautiful state which is a shame it’s turned that way.
It's a great place to live. Only state I'd live in. People from outside are fed a lot of nonsense. Or they think the state is nothing but San Francisco and L.A. It's not. Not by a long shot. Every conceivable lifestyle can be found here. The difference with a lot of states is that there aren't vast areas where everyone works from the same handbook. You can be gay or a minority pretty much anywhere and people won't blink. Some things are more expensive, like gas and housing in the cities and their suburbs, but it's not across the board. But the income is the highest in the West too. What I would consider is location. It's a HUGE state and more people live here, by far, than any other state and there's a reason for that. If you're considering living in a bigger city you do have to hustle. Like people tend to think that L.A. is just a cakewalk where people are mellow but that's not even close. It's a hard city. And vast. But you have access to most everything. And if you dig nature? It's the best. Hands down. Good luck.
🤔..............40 Million people, $1.2 million for a 1,550 square foot house........Traffic and more traffic.......2 hour drive to work and two hour drive home from work.........traffic............smog and then more smog..........and then on day when the winds blow the smog away you realize that you live in a valley with hills on the side......and more traffic..........
@Jimmy2016 Did you visit CA once or did you possibly live in one small area and decided that the entire state was like that? Should have got out more dude.
@Ynotisay I've been all over California when I lived there...........Of course the whole state is not like that, just the metropolitan areas........I would live in places like Lake Tahoe, but not LA, SF, SD areas...............
@Jimmy2016 OK. The metropolitan areas. I live in California and have no connection to any of the things you mentioned. And that's what makes it the "best" state in the country. No matter your lifestyle choice, CA offers it somewhere.
Not really. There's this horrible cliff next to the good beaches that's always falling down. There's actually a nuclear power plant right on the beach with a dramatic fault line running right under it, called San Onofre, and that's in one of the best parts.
@fairyboyAndy I was in Texas in my military service and am biased. I enjoyed my time there. Consider your current education and desired future work and see how Texas would fit in.
If you drive a fossil fuel driven, the government hates you! They are trying to punish those drive them. Their environmental laws are chasing people out.
