It's a great place to live. Only state I'd live in. People from outside are fed a lot of nonsense. Or they think the state is nothing but San Francisco and L.A. It's not. Not by a long shot. Every conceivable lifestyle can be found here. The difference with a lot of states is that there aren't vast areas where everyone works from the same handbook. You can be gay or a minority pretty much anywhere and people won't blink.
Some things are more expensive, like gas and housing in the cities and their suburbs, but it's not across the board. But the income is the highest in the West too. What I would consider is location. It's a HUGE state and more people live here, by far, than any other state and there's a reason for that. If you're considering living in a bigger city you do have to hustle. Like people tend to think that L.A. is just a cakewalk where people are mellow but that's not even close. It's a hard city. And vast. But you have access to most everything. And if you dig nature? It's the best. Hands down. Good luck.
