Are you a wanderer or a destination traveler?

Poll - Total Votes: 21
I like to wander. I don't care what I see. It is all about the journey.
I am all about the destination. I don't linger.

I just got back from South Dakota and i learned something interesting. I met a lady who wanted to join me on the trip. I sent her my itinerary and the places i wanted to visit. She said thanks and with that I thought she agreed to the plan. NOPE.

She said that it was about the journey for her and not the destination. Well for me it is ALL about the destination because I am not coming back more than likely. I make a list and I stick to it.

It caused major problems. My question is are you a wanderer or destination kind of person?

I do like to wander. Judging from the responses, a lot of us do. But if I was traveling with someone who was about the destination, I would defer to her. That really was not fair to you that she treated your list as optional.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@ShadowSister yes she blew my list off and we wasted too much time doing nothing

I don't like to be locked into an itinerary. Its ok to head to a destination but like to be free to explore where the interest is sparked. Many times I have been disappointed in the popular tourist attraction only to find wonderful out of the way places and shops in the same area. I guess its good to know the tourist trap isn't all its cracked up to be, but thank goodness for the side jaunts that made the trip worthwhile.

I like to set destinations I can wander and explore on the way to and from as well as at.

@WillaKissing Me too. I have an itinerary but don't slavishly stick to it as that means often amazing things are missed. ☺️
WillaKissing · 56-60
@Fluffybull Oh, absolutely. Everyone that really knows me, knows that I do not have or take trips. Instead, they know I have and take make adventures.

I'd like to think I am a bit of both.
If I can manage the wandering, I do. But.... I usually have a destination in mind for eventually.
It's about the journey AND the destination...both are important in my life. :)

It's like my trips to a supermarket. I start with a shopping list of maybe 10 items, but come home with 20 or 30 items. And, often without one or two that were on that original list.

Or like in a restaurant, what I see other people eating often triggers my own choice. So whether shopping or eating, it's the whole experience, and feeling my way as the options unfold, but hopefully without forgetting why I am there.

Who I'm there with is also important. That's part of the journey. If they want to hijack my experience it's best to go our separate ways and meet back up later, if at all.

I usually had a general destination and a return date. If there were specific events/sights I wanted to see along the way they were options within a rough itinerary. But I tried not to lock in specifics unless I knew lodging/flights had to be scheduled in advance for I found that my most enjoyable moments invariably came from things we happened upon by chance, or because we happened on a detour that struck our muse. And on the rare occasion where we found our original destination wasn't up to our expectations, it was nice to have the luxury to totally jettison and carve out a Plan B on the fly.

If I had a lot of money I would be a wanderer. However, the few times I have taken trips with the ex, I had an itinerary, and a budget.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@4meAndyou me too. I want to get ot all in
GJOFJ3 · 61-69, M
A combination of both. My itinerary has to have lots of free time to wander of the planned path.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@GJOFJ3 i like to get done what i planned and then wander on left over time
A bit of both, enjoyed couple of very cool things/places by allowing for some flexibility.
WintaTheAngle · 41-45, M
I’ve been to quite few countries. Not always had a chance to explore the best parts.
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
A little of both. I like to wander to a destination and meander once I get there.
bugeye · 26-30, F
Oh well I'm the type of Gal who will never settle down
Where pretty guys are well, you know that I'm around
I kiss 'em and I love 'em 'cause to me they're all the same
I hug 'em and I squeeze 'em they don't even know my name
They call me the wanderer, yeah the wanderer
I roam around around around...
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
☝️🙃😈😁

I do make that list! Not necessarily stick to it though. Having contingencies is the best plan. Because you'll never know what will happen.

Tornado in Texas? Go another planned route. And yes it's preplanned. Not when it happens.
exexec · 61-69, C
I like to have a destination and a plan to get there. My wife is a wanderer so I end up wandering with her while she keeps telling me to stop looking at my watch.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@exexec that would be me with the watch
Slade · 56-60, M
I like to take meandering routes to an ultimate destination. Too much unknown causes needless anxiety
akindheart · 61-69, F
@Slade i wanted to see it all. if something came up, i had time built in. she didn't.
Tracos · 51-55, M
I prefer the journey over the destination
antonioioio · 70-79, M
Destination
Just to where my family lives 😊
pancakeslam · 41-45, M
South Dakota huh? awesome place I would like to visit
akindheart · 61-69, F
@Slade from my phone? how do you do that?
Slade · 56-60, M
@akindheart I assume it's still saved in your gallery or downloads. Might be worth a trip to the mobile store if you can't find it
akindheart · 61-69, F
@Slade i can find it. i just don't know how to upload it. i can manually email them to me but i have over 100 pics from the trip.
