I remember characters like astronaut Dan Dare (Eagle comic), and assorted military or police chaps: "real" people, not weird mutants in leotards, though Dr. Who is perhaps nearest to the alien types.
@AdmiralPrune I read only The Children's Newspaper at all regularly at that age, but did see occcasional copies of comics and the like.
My biggest memories of The Eagle are of their wonderful centre-spread cut-away diagrams and explanations of things like ships, and of the "Dan Dare" stories set in some far future.... the 2020s perhaps.
