Go for a walk. Talk to my daughters.

Well, depending on what caused the sadness, I allow some space to recover.
Then I look for distraction. A nature walk, phone calls to friends, activity of some sort, because activity helps me sleep and while my body is at peace, the mind tends to follow.
Talk about it. Sadness in solitude is much harder to heal. If it’s too disabling for too long, talk to your doctor. Don’t drink alcohol. It’s a depressant.
Give it time, but keep an eye on your moods and thoughts.

It's not often when I feel truly sad, but when I do I figure out the root of the issue, then let myself be sad for a moment and then purposefully engage in one activity or another.
The reason for the sadness never fully goes away, but I quickly put it in perspective by staying busy and soon it's just a past sadness.

Drink water, eat, take a nap, go for a walk, call a friend for a hangout. In that order.

It's easy when you're retired - take a nap.

I think I'm over that. My life is kind of a Tornado and then try to create a calm storm for my health.
