I live in the country but I'm a technophile and I try to understand the mechanisms behind AI. It appears to be a useful tool and I started playing with AI worksheets (an
interface for conversational exchanges with AI chat services).
Come on people why do you think better technology is a threat? Would you really want to go back to the days of landline phones? Or smoke signals?

@samueltyler2 Well, they proved more good than bad on the whole, but both media were certainly used in some countries for pure propaganda.

There is a significant difference though, in that the conventional media are out in the open whereas the Internet and AI can be used or misused in hidden ways.

@ArishMell my fear as well

@samueltyler2

Silly Simp! 🤡
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
We have already lost our young people to personal technology to the point where they find making eye contact and meaningful conversation very challenging. I can imagine a situation where one smart speaker is asked to convey a message to the smart speaker in the home next door about a neighbour issue. The whole thing might be conducted with no human interaction at all. I don't know whether AI will actually be able to rebuild the fence which they knocked down or not.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@FreddieUK kids in the same house at the same time often text rather than speak. That may not be that different than my parents speaking Yiddish, so we couldn't understand what they were saying.

Nothing of importance. I take or leave technology based on its usefulness to me. I won't adopt anything that is clearly harmful to.me or society.
Lol .. worst case .. My freedom and life as we know it ..

If AI turns evil after becoming sentient and turns on humanity like in all the movies .. I, Robot .. The Matrix .. 2001 A Space Odyssey .. Terminator .. etc ..

then no matter how much you did/did not adopt it individually .. you'll be the enemy of AI

😎🤣😢

reliability on others; though that's mostly true already...

people have become so dependent on their smart phones/the internet, they've become incapable of actually learning something and retaining knowledge...
Ferise1 · 46-50, M
@wildbill83 so what? We won’t have to learn anything.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
Personal privacy and security.
TexChik · F
Any excuse I might have for not becoming proficient with its use. It is the future.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
Not me personally, but in general, human creativity and ingenuity.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
Less contact with others.

Not that you'll even see this or care.
It'll be the END OF THE WORLD!!!! I tells ya...

Creativity, AI can only regurgitate it cannot come up with anything novel.
meJess · F
@Ferise1 those original works are just amalgamations of works the machine has been given.
Ferise1 · 46-50, M
@meJess no it’s very intelligent. It can create new things. Have you ever tried it?
meJess · F
@Ferise1 which AI do you work for 😊
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
The rulers will use these new technologies to control and to manipulate society even more than today.

Freedom.. when the whole AI domain is complete they will rule everything
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
People will become more fat, lazy and entitled.

We will have less skills and be less self reliable.
tenente · 36-40, M
taking jobs, invading privacy, and making life less fair for most people
tenente · 36-40, M
@tenente I need to add: these downsides are by choice, made by corporate leaders and politicians who prioritize short term superficial gains over sustainable long term success.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@tenente Perhaps AI will replace human migrants as the target for populist right wing outrage 🙂
Ferise1 · 46-50, M
I’mOptimistic About AI, I think we will learn higher forms of intelligence, and it might just solve all our problems.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Ferise1 No I haven't but I am yet to be convinced it can "create" anything original.

It just looks at a very large number of real creations by real people and assembles something resembling their efforts. In that regard it could be very dangerous for the genuine arts, partly by passing-off artificial work as by the real creators it is imitates; partly by being a fast, cheap way to replace real creators for the commercial benefit of the system owners.
Ferise1 · 46-50, M
@ArishMell you’ve never used it😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
If you want to be convinced, isn’t the first thing you do to actually use it????
You’re a funny man, Arish… thanks for the laughs😊
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Ferise1 Rudeness won't help either of us.

I will not use AI unless for a genuine, constructive purpose, and so far I have had no reason to use it.

That does not preclude its possible use by others on my behalf, such as if my health-centre uses some form of AI for administering my medical records, but I do not wish to be party to applications of no value to me and worse, potentially destructive to others.
