Panic attacks are intense periods of fear or anxiety that can come on suddenly and without warning. They can be very distressing and can interfere with daily activities. If you have experienced a panic attack, you know how scary and overwhelming they can be.

There are several strategies that can be helpful in managing panic attacks:

Deep breathing exercises: Taking slow, deep breaths can help to calm the body and mind during a panic attack. Try to focus on your breath and try to breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth.

Progressive muscle relaxation: This technique involves tensing and then relaxing different muscle groups in your body. This can help to reduce tension and anxiety.

Mindfulness: This involves paying attention to the present moment without judgment. You can try focusing on your breath or on a mantra to help bring your mind back to the present.

Exercise: Engaging in regular physical activity can help to reduce stress and improve mood. Exercise can also be a helpful distraction during a panic attack.

Avoiding triggers: It can be helpful to try to identify and avoid things that trigger your panic attacks. This might include certain situations or activities, or it could be something like caffeine or alcohol.

Seeking support: It can be helpful to talk to a trusted friend or family member about your panic attacks. They can provide emotional support and can also help to keep you safe if you are having a panic attack. You might also consider seeking support from a mental health professional, such as a therapist or counselor.

Medication: In some cases, medication can be helpful in managing panic attacks. Talk to your doctor about whether medication might be a good option for you.

It's important to remember that panic attacks are a treatable condition and that with the right treatment, you can learn to manage them effectively. Don't be afraid to seek help if you are struggling with panic attacks.

Grandma's tricks:

Sipping on chamomile tea: Chamomile has a calming effect and can help to reduce anxiety.

Taking a warm bath or shower: The warm water can help to relax the muscles and calm the mind.

Listening to soothing music: Music has the ability to affect our mood and can help to relax and calm the mind.

Going for a walk or spending time in nature: Getting outside and getting some fresh air can be helpful in reducing stress and anxiety.

Practicing relaxation techniques: Techniques such as deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, and mindfulness can be helpful in managing panic attacks.

Seeking support from friends and loved ones: It can be helpful to talk to someone about your panic attacks and to have someone to lean on for support.

Seeking professional help: If you are struggling to manage your panic attacks on your own, it may be helpful to seek support from a mental health professional. They can help you to identify the underlying causes of your panic attacks and can provide you with the tools and strategies you need to manage them effectively.

I can not stress this part enough, but the best thing to do would be therapy with a professional. They would not only have immense knowledge of calming techniques but also really help get to the core of what brings on anxiety and panic attacks. With good therapy, you'll begin to recognize those feelings earlier, and the thought processes that lead to them, and have strategies to align your thinking differently and avoid them all together. As well as talking to a psychiatrist to see if anti-anxiety medications are right for you. Usually, you would get two for anxiety, and you'd get a controller to take every day that helps regulate your anxious thoughts, something like Lexapro. Then something strong that can help if you reach the point of a panic attack something like Clonazepam. If your heart rate gets crazy high, you could try a Valsalva maneuver, but that's just a dressing, not something that will address the cause.

@Stephanidunord Of course! I can't offer anything like a professional could, but if you ever want to reach out and vent, want advice or just have a conversation to get your mind off things, or even just things reach out :).

Yes… breathe in deeply then hold the air in for 5 seconds and then let the air out of your mouth slowly, repeat this 5 times

I recently have been seeing a therapist for anxiety and panic attacks. Aside from medication which can be helpful for some individuals, one thing my therapist taught me which I've found pretty useful is to count down from 100 by 7's. Idk how well it would work in the midst of a full blown attack, but it's helped me in the moments leading up to one to deescalate! Good luck, I know how hard that shit can be 👍

Deep breaths he used to say.....but lately I can't focus panic attack happens anyway then it just subsides. I also used to be told to describe my surroundings. Or someone really close to me taught me to let it happen and use a fidget spinner to ground myself - it was my strongest method so far.

Square breathing is an excellent way to calm yourself down. It's a technique where you take a deep breath in through your nose, hold the breath for a few seconds, exhale through your mouth and hold for a few seconds. Then repeat. It's a great way to centre yourself and take your mind off things

You might try dunking your face in a sink full of ice & water. Stay under long as you can & do it more than once. They say that
sort of reset your brain. Worth a try….. I hope this helps or you find relief very soon from something!

I’d get my gf at the time, to list off certain things around us, seems to get her mind focused on other things
The best thing is slow deep breaths: breathe in to a slow count of 5, then breathe out to a slow count of 7.

Try mindfulness. Takes a few times learning to do it, but it's really helped my anxiety and panic attacks a lot.

Another thing that helps is with a trained therapist use exposure therapy.
