Why do objects jump off shelves and counters in my house?

Over the years I have had MANY objects fly off shelves and counters for no reason. Most of the time it's happened in my bathroom, when I'm taking a bath. Like a few minutes ago a bottle of jojoba oil just flew off the counter and crashed on the floor for no reason.
It was sitting further back and nothing was near it. Several times I have had my blow dryer jump off the bathroom sink counter when I am in the tub. Another time I was in bed and a large space heater that had been sitting in the same spot on my bathroom sink for years flew across my bathroom and crashed on the floor.
One time I was looking in the bathroom mirror and a bottle of lotion levitated a few inches off the counter right in front of me! I picked it up out of the air and sat it back on the counter. Another time the same thing happened at my dining room table with a toothpick holder.
These things don't happen every day or even every week, but I have seen many objects over the years jump off counters and shelves. It's not just me either- other people at my house has seen the same thing.
What exactly is happening here? Poltergeist? Dead relatives visiting? Me somehow doing telekinesis?
It doesn't scare me at all, I am just curious if anyone else has had this happen?

Get your house blessed by a priest, like right now.
@Mardrae i just thought of something! if you enjoy having this happen, maybe spirits have become attracted to visiting, precisely because they seek to amuse you. Just a thought...

@SalamanderWolfWoman interesting observation. Maybe that's it. I tend to think that this is somehow me doing it, like telekinesis. I have had bizarre experiences outside of my house as well. For instance when I was a preteen, I got very upset with my parents and a chandelier broke. Freaked everyone out. So this could be me somehow doing it. Like my energy
Mardrae · F
@NativePortlander1970 it could also be me doing it somehow. I have had experiences outside my home also. Could be my energy, like telekinesis.

After careful analysis I have discerned there are two possible causes.. Either you live close to a train line or you own a cat..😷
Mardrae · F
@whowasthatmaskedman lol- neither
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Mardrae Then your next door neighbours cat has a model railway,,😷

Changes in humidity causing the materials to absorb water and expand stuff is the only thing that comes to my mind. I know our walls and the door make cracking noises when I overdo it with hot steamy showers. 😬

One time I was looking in the bathroom mirror and a bottle of lotion levitated a few inches off the counter right in front of me!
But I have no explanation for this.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@Banksy83 Ask the OP. 😅 Maybe something more juicy.
Mardrae · F
@CrazyMusicLover I wish it was a change in humidity- it's in the single digits here, but this has happened in all temperatures
Mardrae · F
@Banksy83 last night? No, jojoba oil

Well, since you know you've got a little poltergeist action going on, plan for it. Don't buy glass bottles, and invest in one of those over the toilet cabinets, so that you can stow things for which you presently have no storage, and tie the cabinet door handles with elastic hair ties. Usually activity like that originates with a person living in the house, so consider the possibility that you might be doing it without knowing it.

Always unplug appliances if you are in the bath. Be extra careful. Remember that the more you worry about it, or obsess over it, the worse it is going to get.

I had something like that happen to me in a house in Michigan. I reached for my water glass, and it moved away from me across the kitchen counter. The countertop was tiled, so there was no way it was the glass sliding on a sealed base of water. In that instance, it was probably a ghost, because I did hear moaning from the bathroom one night.
Mardrae · F
@4meAndyou I didn't think of that, but at least the extension cord would fall out hopefully. The heater has jumped off the counter by itself, and my blow dryer has too, more than once. Thankfully it came unplugged when it fell off.
4meAndyou · F
@Mardrae Just don't crawl into the bath with ANYTHING plugged in, in the bathroom.
Mardrae · F
@4meAndyou lol. I may not be the brightest crayon in the box, but I am definitely not that stupid.
Nimbus · M
Do you have a cat?
smiler2012 · 61-69
@Nimbus 😆they jump off shelves in shops alright nimby into the pocket of the passing scouser lol
Mardrae · F
@Nimbus no, no cat or any pets

I get this in my flat, in my place it has nothing to do with dead people or poltergeists and everything to do with the neighbour below pushing up at the joists above his ceiling in order to harass me.

Both the flats above and below me can make things fly about by door slamming too, it's like living in a riot some days.
Mardrae · F
@AntisocialTroll makes sense in your case, but I live in a house
AntisocialTroll · 56-60, F
@Mardrae Have you checked what might be beneath your house? I'm thinking old mine shafts or a train tunnel?
Mardrae · F
@AntisocialTroll I actually tried to research the history of my home years ago, but couldn't find anything. I got it fairly cheap.
Tarnished · 26-30, M
Your house's gravity circuit board is acting up. Better get it checked soon before bigger objects get launched.
Vin53 · M
🎵 Just like me.....they want to be.....close to youuuuuu...🎵
Peaceandnamaste · 26-30, F
Are there any local ghost hunters in your area?
Mardrae · F
@Peaceandnamaste I don't know. I mean, I am not trying to get rid of the ghost, if that's what it is. I just want to know who it is. I used to think it was my late husband, because the activity increased quite a bit after he died, but we had weird things happen when he was still alive. For instance, we had the bedroom door locked and had just finished sex, and all of a sudden the knob turned and the door opened and slammed into the wall. My husband ran through the house naked, thinking someone had broken in, but no one was in the house.
@Mardrae ever try to actually talk to the spirit and resolve things civilly? I have no idea if it would help. i consider spirits no better or worse than crummy neighbors and roommates with whom I know both past and present. sometimes negotiations are futile. another option would be to summon any sympathetic spirits you already know to mediate with and hopefully resolve this dispute with your current spirit who knocks stuff off counters.
Mardrae · F
@SalamanderWolfWoman yes, I talk to it fairly regularly, like when something disappears, I tell them to put it back. An ex roommate actually saw a ghost in my house and he freaked out so bad he moved out. He said the ghost was obsessed with me.
Nebula · 41-45, F
Maybe something isn't level, like floors or cabinet
Mardrae · F
@Nebula if that were the are, the other items would fall off too
Banksy83 · 41-45, M
My great great Uncle opened an Antique buisness in a shop that was supposedly haunted ,things would fall to the floor and smash for no reason. The previous owner had committed suicide in the shop by putting the gas pipe for the stove straight into his mouth.
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
Some days I swear that gravity is sideways.
Poltergeist..
Anecdotal. Since we are not witnesses, why would any speculation be helpful?
There are two possible answers in my opinion:
Either you are having some sort of gas leak which could lead to unstable foundation which leads to things falling off shelfs and maybe you get hallucinations from the toxic fumes. OR
You really live in a haunted house and need to talk with the apparently restless spirits who haunt your abode. These are only my humble opinions. PEACE. If you and anybody else who is reading my note can give me feedback about summoning spirits to haunt disrespectful med staff during medical visits, I would be grateful.
Mardrae · F
@SalamanderWolfWoman lol. I don't have a gas leak. There are no toxic fumes in my house. I'm not crazy and I don't hallucinate. Other people have seen things jump off counters as well. A gas leak would certainly show up on my utility bill.
My house has several spirits in it I believe.
@Mardrae I both recognise and sympathize regarding your struggle with the spirits who seek conflict with you. I hope you will win a flawless victory!
Mardrae · F
@SalamanderWolfWoman not trying to get rid of them unless they become really violent.
You seem pretty gung ho. Maybe do a seance?
Mardrae · F
@Activitykittens That would be fun, but I don't have anyone to do one with.
