Do you believe in God? [Spirituality & Religion]

What made you?
Top | New | Old
Speedyman · 70-79, M
Well you can believe the illogical nonsense that nothing made something or you can believe in a creator
Speedyman · 70-79, M
No because your fool philosopher in his tiny wisdom has sought to compare an infinite omnipotent creator with a teapot. And name calling is no substitute for argument. Just a sign you have lost @Elessar
Elessar · 26-30, M
@Speedyman You need to learn a concept named variable (substitution), before you can speak about science, mathematics or even like in this case, philosophy. You can replace "teapot" with "god" or simply "x" in the above statement and it'll still be perfectly valid.
Speedyman · 70-79, M
You must learn a term called appropriate substitution and so must adapt philosopher who put that silly nonsense down. I’ve studied philosophy and as a friend of mine said who was a philosopher it is the art of making the simple appear complicated and clever. It is utterly ridiculous and inappropriate and if you had a brain in your head you would realise that. It just shows your simplicity and gullibility that you swallow it@Elessar
Who made God?

Oh, right, he’s special and needs no creator.
Elessar · 26-30, M
@hippyjoe1955 What other sources do you propose now, the conspiracy sites for the f*cktards, because even an encyclopedia as reputable as the Britannica proved you wrong? You've clearly came out from this like a loser, pointing at evidence that doesn't exist in any worldwide recognized medium, and like every ignorant that has even come on this world, you still insist and insult and cry and try to be loud because you can't accept facts. Simple as that.

Especially when even the Roman Church itself apologized formally, centuries later, on the matter (http://content.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,1997272_1997273_1997285,00.html).

Since the discussion has degenerated to the "I know some truth you all don't" bullshit all you conspiracy theorists believe, on a thread that is exactly about refuting to believe in bullshit, there's no point in going on. I don't care about your baseless brainwashing.
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@Elessar There are lots of article written. Spend a little time looking them up.
Elessar · 26-30, M
@hippyjoe1955 Spend a little more time studying from serious sources, doing validation, and not believing whatever absurd theory you read online.

Like I said I'm not interested in low-grade conspiracy for crackheads.
Ian123 · 61-69, M
I have a suggestion for people arguing about God, why don’t you just wait and see one way or the other. There are no actual facts either way, it’s a matter of belief in my case or non belief. One day we will know for certain. 😇
Speedyman · 70-79, M
Your problem is that you need some basic education rather than sleep. I do feel sorry for young people like you. You need to get informed of so many things rather than believing so much tripe on social media@RedtheEmerald
@Speedyman According to you, King David is roasting in hell for eternity because he wasn't a Christian.
Speedyman · 70-79, M
Not at all. He was a man of faith. Your lack of understanding is palpable. @LeopoldBloom
Adaydreambeliever · 56-60, F
MY mother and father had sex.. just like lots of mothers and fathers have sex and there was a lot of sperm produced and these sperm swim to meet and try to fertilise the egg - one must have been successful and hey presto I was born.. I believe my mother was made by her mother and her father having sex.. SEX made me!
Elessar · 26-30, M
@hippyjoe1955 Thanks for supporting our cause! :)
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@Elessar Any time you want to present your evidence after all:

) You claim something exists, yet provided zero evidence as of yet to back your assertion with facts.
2) Expect those who logically refute your non-proven thesis (without further assertions) to provide evidence, against any and every logic - in particular Onus probandi and the Occam's Razor.
3) Claim your cult isn't responsible for genocides, when I've listed several (not even all), took me three posts to do it, and provided a bibliographical source for any and every of them.

In regards to this all:

THE BURDEN OF PROOF IS ON THOSE WHO ASSERT SOMETHING, NOT THOSE WHO DENY.

Or if you prefer Latin (just for saying how old the statement is):

Onus probandi incumbit ei qui dicit, non ei qui negat.

Many orthodox people speak as though it were the business of sceptics to disprove received dogmas rather than of dogmatists to prove them. This is, of course, a mistake. If I were to suggest that between the Earth and Mars there is a china teapot revolving about the sun in an elliptical orbit, nobody would be able to disprove my assertion provided I were careful to add that the teapot is too small to be revealed even by our most powerful telescopes. But if I were to go on to say that, since my assertion cannot be disproved, it is intolerable presumption on the part of human reason to doubt it, I should rightly be thought to be talking nonsense. If, however, the existence of such a teapot were affirmed in ancient books, taught as the sacred truth every Sunday, and instilled into the minds of children at school, hesitation to believe in its existence would become a mark of eccentricity and entitle the doubter to the attentions of the psychiatrist in an enlightened age or of the Inquisitor in an earlier time.

I'll go on copy-pasting this so long as you will attempt to evade bringing the evidence you're ought to provide, as per the onus probandi duty explained above.
Elessar · 26-30, M
@hippyjoe1955 Thanks for your support!
I was made too. Indoctrination at a very young age. Fortunately I had the wherewithal to get out, many dont.
Elessar · 26-30, M
@Sharon At one point he'll grow tired of replying lol
Speedyman · 70-79, M
@Elessar you refuse to consider evidence apart from imaginary and fanciful teapots invented by cranks
Elessar · 26-30, M
@Speedyman I can't consider things that you won't share.
Rhodesianman · 56-60, M
I am sorry to say I dont or the bible .The bible was written 300 years after the fact .Herod lived nearly 200 years or more before christ .Its been proved he wasnt born in Bethlehem in israel , Mary never travelled to bethlehem on a donkey and many more facts through out the bible are in correct .Jesus and his dad and siblings werent carpenters but stone masons , he wasnt born on the 25th of december . I could go on but I think I have made my point .
Speedyman · 70-79, M
Sorry mate, you are senile before your time believing the nonsense you do! 😊@Rhodesianman
Rhodesianman · 56-60, M
@Speedyman Not nonsense its proven truth if you believe what you think you know is true prove it .I believe in proven truth not fairy stories .
Speedyman · 70-79, M
You haven’t give me one proven fact in your nonsense that is in the Bible. For example we know that Herod did not live 200 years before Jesus. That is absolute nonsense. Whoever wrote that with the birdbrain and the site you got it from needs to be closed down. You say just going to an atheist site and picking up bits of information which you think make you look clever do not make you look clever at all but just make you look a fool. But as I say when you’re an atheist you believe not in nothing but in anything@Rhodesianman

No one made me, my species evolved from a common ancestor with the apes.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@Sharon Have a nice life.
Sharon · F
@SimplyTracie You too.
Carazaa · F
@SimplyTracie I give because I want God to know I trust him even in economic hard times! I give because I want my church to pay their bills, and I give because I want the gospel to go out.
Ingwe · F
Did I answer this already?

if not YES I believe
and I found my way to Him
as a youngster
barefoot on a goatpath

:P

we lived close to nature
looking around me and I saw everything was wonderful
and I saw some sort of order
the night and day
the seasons..heard the earth is tilted just so
the planets and
gravity
how rain is formed
the birth of animal babies
the milky way and the stars at night to show the way
sun in the day and it's reflection on the moon
to light the night
and how we are just far enough away from the sun .....et cetera
and I figured there must be high intelligence involved
I saw death and reckoned there must be more to being born
and more to life
more than just sex drugs and rock and roll
making war , making bad choices ...for the outcome was horrible
killing each other
and polluting a wonderful planet
and then just to die
people live short term lives
lives without real value and deep meaning
I saw a plan and searched and found my answer
The Creator

🤨
Carazaa · F
@Ingwe It’s beautiful to be touched by God!

It's not what but who made me. God made me and you.

@Emosaur @Bushranger
I've known quite a few good Christians who can accept reality.

Yahweh is reality, after all, He's the Author of reality. Let it go guys.

@Emosaur
Prove it.
He's been asked to do that loads of times but he has never managed to. He thinks continually repeating a lie makes it true.

Notice how he's trying to save face now by asking us to "Let it go"? What a coward.
I sure do and always will. I experienced him for myself. I found out real quick He is real. He said, "Seek...and ye shall find". I did, and I've never been sorry. That was on July 21, 1973 that He revealed himself to me, after I prayed, and we've been inseparable ever since. He has answered many prayers of mine and even saved my daughter from dying, when the doctors couldn't.

I believe that all religions are an attempt at accessing a higher power that does exist. To me a universe without a creator doesn't make sense. That doesn't mean I believe the earth is 6000 years old or evolution did not occur. I simply believe there's a design behind it all. And I don't follow a specific religion's teachings. You could describe me as a deist.
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
@quitwhendone lets hear it
HeteroDox · 41-45, F
@DeluxedEdition youre the one who said it, hun - not me. I tried to explain the scientific occurence of near death experince and what the brain does as death occurs.. you want to continue to be a good little indoctriated sheep, thats on you, but dont blame because your faith is based on most likely a halluicantion.

what I have is choice and intelligence, I dont waste my sleep wondering if ill get into Hogwarts when i die...
@DeluxedEdition I can't talk about it in public post. I would send it to you but you haven't even read the last message I sent you last night.
redredred · M
No. Of all the possible explanations for existence, the god-model is the least plausible, in my opinion. It simply begs the question; if all of this came to be by and act of a god, where did the god come from?

If you try to tell me that your god always existed, I can reply that the big bang was just one of an infinite series of big bangs.

If you try to tell me something as complex as human life required a creator, then that creator too requires a creator and so on ad infinitum.

If you try to tell me your particular god is the "one true god" then please provide proof that the other +/- 40,000 gods humans have worshipped are not equally true.

If you try to tell me your scripture is inerrant, explain the thousands of factual errors found in them.

If you try to tell me Ill be punished for not believing and rewarded for believing and Im out of line for asking for proof of this supposition, rational people can agree that seems unreasonable, at the very least.

If you try to tell me I'll understand if I just believe, I must pointnout that your vaunted faith is apparently a volitional act that you can turn on or off at will.

If you try to tell me your god can forgive any sinner, you indicate that people like Caligula, Nero, Vlad the Impaler, Ivan the Terrible, Mao, Hitler and Stalin can be enjoying eternal bliss while some of their victims may be burning in hell.

As I said, the god concept is very, very implausible and far too small to actually explain even the little we understand of the real majesty of the universe.

I believe there is something in the universe that cares what happens to us. ⭐️God, or what ever you want to call it. What makes me believe that is I don't believe we are born just to die. I've read a lot on near death experiences and have a friend that went through it.
Adstar · 56-60, M
Yes i believe in the God of Abraham..

God gave me life..
Adstar · 56-60, M
@SAE5W30 Nope allah is the name of an idol that was once one of 100 idols that where in the Kaaba in Mecca. Before islam was established by mohammad the Kaaba was a pagan site that housed the idols.. Muhammad was a pagan and so was His father who was named by His grand father as Abdullah Abdullah in Arabic means servant of allah.. muhammads Pagan grand father would never have named his pagan son as a servant of allah if allah was the name of the God of Abraham..
SAE5W30 · 46-50, M
@Adstar It's the same God.
Adstar · 56-60, M
@SAE5W30 No way is it the same God.. There is only One God and he is not named allah. He never delivered the quran..
There was a time in history if a person was a Christen they were murdered and also a time when if a person wasn't, they were murdered for that. When I was in Sunday school the nun told us that we were 'lucky' to be born Catholics because any one who wasn't when they died they would go to Hell for eternity. I had friends who weren't, *they were* good decent people and families. I didn't think that seemed right. Then she opened a closet at the front of the classroom and asked who wants to buy a candy bar ?
sally1981 · 41-45, F

@DeluxedEdition I've been attacked many times for my beliefs, so now I won't give anyone the chance....I just ignore them, I won't argue religion with anyone.
Sharon · F
@DeluxedEdition
i didnt see any christians here attacking anyone just saying.
See some of the replies to Atheists from @hippyjoe1955, @GodSpeed63 and @Speedyman to name but three. They frequently accuse Atheists of being ignorant and idiotic, telling them to "grab a brain" or "get an education" and various other childish insults.
@DeluxedEdition when your religion forbids payback, you'll be a magnet for those who are better at dishing it out than they are at taking it
Elessar · 26-30, M
I personally don't. Being it a matter nobody can really provide any tangible proofs for at the moment, I'll keep my mind clear. On the long run, hopefully some (new?) branch of science can provide better clues than we have right now, about the "origin" of everything, assuming there is one.
It took a long time for man to evolve to the point that the Bible was written and Christianity became a Religion. I understand the Philosophy of how to live a decent life, 9 of the 10 commandments, and as social beings want to be with others who believe, feel, and behave the same way.
walabby · M
Which God?
Define "God".

As portrayed in the Bible?... No.

I don't believe in God nor I believe there isn't/aren't any God(s). There's not enough evidences that would point to God.
Sharon · F
@Ian123
There is also no evidence that he or her doesn’t exist is there
There is no evidence that Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny or Russell's Teapot don't exist either.

@Ian123 As well as a few thousand other similar beings. ;)

Yes.
Nothing MADE me believe in God.
Even as a child I could recognize the order of things, how the world is very complex yet everything worked together. It was apparent to me that something really big and smart and powerful put it all together.

When I started Sunday school, the pieces of the puzzle started coming together. In my early teens, we studied the Bible in greater detail and I decided that I wanted to be baptized.

My relationship with God grew from there.
xSiFiGamer2016x · 26-30, M
I may not go to church or to believe in the bible, but I do believe in God. I believe we exist because of God. 👍
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
yes. I believe that God is a force of omnipresent consciousness and love.
Carazaa · F
It’s self evident that there is a God who loves us, and died for us!
4meAndyou · F
Yes. My parents sent me to Sunday School, and the nuns taught me all about God from before the age of seven. We were being prepared to receive the sacraments. I think God got me through my childhood, and got me through a lifetime of bad men...because I was taught that He loved me. That was very important to me as a small child.
basilfawlty89 · 36-40, M
Yes I do, but not in the Abrahamic sense of an anthropomorphic God. I believe in a unifying force of consciousness and life, that's God.
SAE5W30 · 46-50, M
@basilfawlty89 you can call it force, consciousness, anything keeping any part of us existing after death, then you believe in God. You just call it a different name
Ladyred · 46-50, F
Every religion has 10% of the truth... That is the point..We we're meant for greater things than religion....(;
