Atheists, is it worth being an Atheist when it makes you so bitter and twisted and cynical? [Spirituality & Religion]

Why would being an atheist make someone bitter? I don't think it does at all.
There really is no such thing. Christians would be better off if they believed in G0d as much as atheists do. Think about it. Most adults don't believe in Santa Clause, but they don't let him live rent free in their heads 24-7. Most people don't believe in the Easter Bunny, but you don't hear them yacking on and on about the Easter Bunny. Atheists have a firmer belief in God than most Christians. There really is no such thing as an atheist. Atheism is just a religion wherein God gets negative attention instead of positive attention.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@newjaninev2 First nonsensical tenet of atheism is that there is no God therefore any evidence to the contrary must be eliminated while any thing that can even barely construed as evidence of its genesis story is absolute truth never to be questioned. Atheism is a very narrow minded fundamentalist religion worthy only of scorn and derision.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@hippyjoe1955
tenet of atheism is that there is no God
Where do I make that claim?

Are you suggesting that I am not an atheist?
@newjaninev2
What are the tenets and doctrines of atheism?
1. Hate God.
2. Go out of your way to insult and harass those who have a good relationship with God.
Harriet03 · 41-45, F
You mean non delusional?!
BlueVeins · 22-25
I became a lot happier when I ditched the faith, but you have a right to your own point of view.
4meAndyou · F
Only an atheist could truly answer, and I get it, that you have encountered some very rude atheists. But I would say that the most realistic thing we could apply to ALL atheists is that they don't have the hope of an afterlife, and when their lives are difficult, or when they feel there is no hope, they do not have the comfort of a belief in a God who loves them.

I would not want to live without hope or comfort. But that's just me.
😉...not mocking really. You know I could have done far worse. The myths you mentioned are all fine.

When one of the pantheon of deities decides to do something, I will be here.I am all for freedom of religion AND freedom from it.
Freedom of speech is also very important to me as well.

As long as Westboro Baptist and anti abortion advocates protest.
As long as priest and bishops are being defrocked.

As long as gay and lesbian couples are allowed not to hold marriage ceremonies in churches.

As long as there are super churches that allow pastors gross lifestyles..

As long as science is discounted as a belief.
I will speak up and I will “mock”

I am a humanist, @4meAndyou
4meAndyou · F
@TexasgurlWell, you are trying VERY hard to be polite, I assume. Aside from the veiled threat, of course.
The myths

I will speak up and I will “mock”

You know I could have done far worse.
Free speech and freedom of religion is mandated in this country, but your disillusionments have made you very...bitter...and rude. So...perhaps the young lady who posted here has a point.
I am only giving what I get👍🏻@4meAndyou

@xixgun 😂
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
that's the only reason I do it
Wraithorn · 51-55, M
I don't think bitter, twisted and cynical are traits of all atheists.

Also from one religion's point of view people from other religions are atheist because they don't believe in the one true god. So from that point of view we are all atheists.
ABCDEF7 · M
Believe something or not believe something, but it should be to make you a good human being.
@ABCDEF7 Yes ! And kind to others...that should be the bottom line. 🌺
ABCDEF7 · M
@bijouxbroussard Yes, I relate it to spirituality.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
I'm none of these things. I'm a pretty optimistic, positive person.

I'm curious why you think you know me better than I do.
BananaBrown · 41-45, F
Is it worth be a Christian when it makes you so intolerant, self-righteous, and hypocritical?
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
I guess anything which makes you bitter, twisted and cynical is not good for you, religion included.
SnailTeeth · 36-40
People can be those things and believe in God, they exist despite each other.
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
Seems to me it's the religious right that gets it's knickers in a knot more than anyone
It isn't being atheist that makes you this way, it's how religious people ruined the world so many times that kinda gets in your bones. It's like being the only sober person at a house party and not being able to stop your drunk guests from praying and killing each other.

Nice passive aggressive post.👍
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
Oh, the cause is actually my indifference towards postulations about the existence of unicorns, leprechauns, yeti, faeries, and dragons.

By comparison, my indifference towards postulations about the existence of gods pales into insignificance.
Entwistle · 56-60, M
Atheism is a kind of freedom.
We don't fear divine judgement or a thunderbolt up the arse for having normal human thoughts.
Seriously though..I was raised a Roman Catholic..my mind is free of all that shit now.
NeloAngelo · 26-30, M
its not being atheist that makes us bitter and cynical. its the patronising, insulting and sometimes outright malicious tone theists take when they find out.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@NeloAngelo I've chilled out a lot about my atheism and am happy to just let people get by in life however they so please. That said, growing up in a religious town it was not exactly an easy path to take. It's easy to get nasty in response.
Egg01 · 56-60, F
I'm atheist and know many others who are nothing like you describe. People, of all beliefs and non beliefs, can be bitter and twisted for a variety of reasons
JovialPlutonian · 36-40, M
There are a lot of bible badgers that are those things, Dominican nuns were pretty fucked up lol
Hahah i looked at your other posts and ik peeps like you irl :| sooo sad
StevetheSleeve · 31-35, M
I don’t have time for that. I’m too busy not believing.
SW-User
shouldn’t you be in a church or temple rn
@SW-User Passing judgment is a much holier activity. 🙄
SW-User
I think being cynical is not necessarily a bad thing. I also think it works the other way around and bitterness leads to atheistic beliefs. I definitely agree that religion ran it’s course and should be forgotten already though. If there was a worldwide petition aiming to abolish religion,I would join the cause. People can’t seem to wrap their heads around the fact that religion is a concept created by humans. Most self proclaimed atheist are against creationism and religion as a whole, not the idea of a more intelligent species started life on this planet . God is only a word and it does not equal religion
TheWildEcho · 56-60, M
Some(not all) atheists who have replied to my posts do seem bitter and rather miserable, its a pity they don't have the joy of the Lord in their hearts
Success · 26-30, F
Some atheists optimistically believe in life after death. To which do you refer?
TheWildEcho · 56-60, M
@Success do you?
Success · 26-30, F
TheWildEcho · 56-60, M
@Success what do you think it will be like?
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
Have you ever met one atheist in real life? I've met plenty of Christians who are rather bitter, since they're the majority.
tindrummer · M
Believers, is it worth being a believer if it makes you so judgemental, self-righteous and holier-than-thou?
Miram · 31-35, F
Not sure why you're always sitting on their dicks if you think so low of them. Atheists this, atheists that..
Wraithorn · 51-55, M
@Miram Lol. That's one way of putting it I suppose.
SW-User
Yes. It’s fun. Even more so when you’re an agnostic atheist then you get horny, vengeful and narcissistic.
Serendipitymaybe · 51-55, M
It doesn’t have to. You can still be spiritual and compassionate without believing in God.
What if it doesn’t ? Some of the cruelest, most bitter and twisted folks I ever encountered, especially as a child, were in church every Sunday. If knowing God brought them joy, you’d never know it. They certainly didn’t share anything with us except what we were doing wrong and why we were going to hell.

When I started volunteering I met several atheists who were cheerful and kind to others, not because they were afraid of being punished by an all-seeing deity if they weren’t, but because it made life more pleasant for everyone. They didn’t brag about their personal philosophies, nor did they try to tell me what I should or shouldn’t believe ! Unlike the theists, they left that entirely to me. It was a revelation, so to speak.
redredred · M
Im neither bitter nor twisted. I try to be cynical but its hard to keep up with reality.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
....As opposed to indignant; self-righteous and egotistical ?
td6661 · 26-30, F
I'm pretty sure it hasn't made me bitter or unhappy.

Is it worth being so close minded and hateful against everything for religious people???
Entwistle · 56-60, M
@Chevy454 I don't see anyone being hateful against all religious people.
Chevy454 · 46-50, M
No I mean religious people are some of the most hateful people I know. @Entwistle
Entwistle · 56-60, M
@Chevy454 Ahh okay. My mistake. Apologies.

Why is it so hard to believe in God, but take the devil's existence for granted?
Rickg · 31-35, M
Even worse are the anti theists
That believe in a god or gods and want to destroy them
🤔 Deflecting ?
Uhhh ok then
