Atheists, is it worth being an Atheist when it makes you so bitter and twisted and cynical? [Spirituality & Religion]

There really is no such thing. Christians would be better off if they believed in G0d as much as atheists do. Think about it. Most adults don't believe in Santa Clause, but they don't let him live rent free in their heads 24-7. Most people don't believe in the Easter Bunny, but you don't hear them yacking on and on about the Easter Bunny. Atheists have a firmer belief in God than most Christians. There really is no such thing as an atheist. Atheism is just a religion wherein God gets negative attention instead of positive attention.
@puck61 As much as you'd like for this to be true, this is absolutely absurd. Also, atheism is far from being the antithesis of Christianity. Christianity is only one of many theistic religions that atheists don't subscribe to.

Most Christians that I've met are not bible-thumping nut jobs who protest gay funerals or practice snake handling. But they exist. So just as Christians are diverse in their practices and belief systems, so are atheists.

The one thing that all of us have in common is the non-belief of any god, gods or goddesses, whether it be the god you worship, or others. Additionally, many of us believe strongly in the separation of church and state and take offense when the religious minority tries to invade the sacred spaces of politics and education.

We aren't trying to kill Christmas, even if some of us don't celebrate it. We aren't standing protest at your funerals with offensive and hateful signs. But we don't believe in your god and that seems to offend you.
@TheFlippantSide No. What I said is 100% true. Atheism is a religion, and the devotees have a much stronger believe in God than most monotheistic religions.
@puck61 Atheists are not united in their views. Maybe we oppose certain religious actions that we see as oppressive, but that's really inescapable in our society, so it may appear to you to be in the forefront of every atheists mind. I don't speak for every atheist just as you can't speak for every Christian. But as far at the atheists I know, we just live our lives and the concept of god rarely enters our minds.

As far as the atheists you might see as being obsessed with theistic ideologies, it still doesn't mean they believe in god. As much as you'd like to make that connection, one does not follow the other.
@TheFlippantSide They are just people who are angry at God, and they all cry out to God when death is imminent. They hate it when people know the truth about their faith, and they hate people who have good relationships with God, because they themselves have bad relationships with God. It is pretty obvious when you consider all the things that people don't believe in, and the glaring difference when it comes to God. I wish I had the firm belief in God that a garden variety atheist has, and I'm a regular church attending Christian. I struggle with doubt sometimes. Atheists never doubt for a second. God stays on their minds constantly.
@puck61 I won't even argue with such illogical nonsense.

@puck61 This is circular logic.
@TheFlippantSide @SnailTeeth I know you people hate when people suss you, but you done been sussed! It couldn't be more obvious, and you all cry out to that God you hate so much eventually! 😁
@puck61 This is such funny shit. Thanks for making us laugh! 😹

@puck61 No, I just don't presume to know a being, who is clearly subjective based on the different views from person to person, religion to religion, etc, etc... If God does exist, I believe He is also the Devil, He is the omnipresent beginning and end. In short, the closest we'll get to knowing God, is knowing the universe in which we exist, for its darkness and its light.
@TheFlippantSide He who laughs last laughs the loudest! 😉

yes puck61, what you have written perfectly describes some of the atheists on here! As soon as you mention you believe in God out come the insults, mockery and name calling

@puck61
Atheism is a religion
What are the tenets and doctrines of atheism?
devotees have a much stronger believe in God
(Devotees? lol!)

1. there's no proof that gods exist (otherwise we'd all be theists)
2. there's no proof that gods don't exist (they might be lurking around a mountain-top somewhere)
3. in any event, there's no compelling necessity to even postulate gods, and the postulation explains nothing... it merely tries to explain everything away.
4. therefore, I have no gods

Show me where in there you find a belief! You haven’t been able to do so on the numerous other occasions that I have asked you... maybe this time you’ll succeed.

Or maybe you’ll yet again just run away.

In fact, 'atheism' is a term that should not even exist. No one ever needs to identify himself as a 'non-astrologer' or a 'non-alchemist'. We do not have words for people who doubt that Elvis is still alive or that aliens have traversed the galaxy only to molest ranchers and their cattle. Atheism is nothing more than the noises reasonable people make in the presence of unjustified religious beliefs.

@newjaninev2 First nonsensical tenet of atheism is that there is no God therefore any evidence to the contrary must be eliminated while any thing that can even barely construed as evidence of its genesis story is absolute truth never to be questioned. Atheism is a very narrow minded fundamentalist religion worthy only of scorn and derision.

@hippyjoe1955
tenet of atheism is that there is no God
Where do I make that claim?

Are you suggesting that I am not an atheist?
@newjaninev2
What are the tenets and doctrines of atheism?

1. Hate God.
2. Go out of your way to insult and harass those who have a good relationship with God.
