What if it doesn’t ? Some of the cruelest, most bitter and twisted folks I ever encountered, especially as a child, were in church every Sunday. If knowing God brought them joy, you’d never know it. They certainly didn’t share anything with us except what we were doing wrong and why we were going to hell.
When I started volunteering I met several atheists who were cheerful and kind to others, not because they were afraid of being punished by an all-seeing deity if they weren’t, but because it made life more pleasant for everyone. They didn’t brag about their personal philosophies, nor did they try to tell me what I should or shouldn’t believe ! Unlike the theists, they left that entirely to me. It was a revelation, so to speak.
