Are there songs so sad you can’t listen to them?

“Hallelujah” for me.

This song is one of the saddest I’ve experienced.

I don’t feel there is a song that I couldn’t listen to because I appreciate feeling the emotions of a song.
Iwillwait · M
@Bumbles Trent Reznor (Writer) of this song, stated that once CASH sung this song, it was no longer his and that Johnny now made it his own.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@Iwillwait I didn't know that; I appreciate Reznor's respect for Cash.
Iwillwait · M
@Bumbles Trent Publically referred the song as Johnny Cash's after that performance
BarbossasHusband · 36-40, M
Sound of Silence (either version)
Because of You by Kelly Clarkson
Suicide is Painless (any version, including just the melody)
Sound of Your Cry by Elvis Presley (It started playing as I was taking my Pantera to the vet for possibly the last time)
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@BarbossasHusband That association is so strong.
GerOttman · 61-69, M
@BarbossasHusband Hello darkness my old friend... Make a good tattoo, Yo!

No but I've gotten teary eyed thinking of my son. He died.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@Spoiledbrat Yes, I would I think that would happen quite often. I’m so sorry.
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
It's Quiet Uptown from Hamilton.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@DunningKruger Indeed. Amazing soundtrack too.
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
Yeah, I have a whole playlist called "sappy sad" that I put on when I'm in a mood, but some remind me of people long gone and I need to skip them.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@Starcrossed There’s “good” sad songs, and ones that are too intense.
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
@Bumbles sometimes you wallowing in those songs feels right
exexec · 61-69, C
No, but there are songs that evoke memories that cause me to choke up or shed a tear. I still listen to them or even sing them because the memories are precious.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@exexec That's the good side of it, perhaps.
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
No... There are some I always shed a tear to, every time I listen to them. And that's not a bad thing.

Just three of such songs I'll share.

Bumbles · 51-55, M
@GerOttman Oh, Irish ballads, for sure.
Jeephikelove · 51-55, F
Concrete Angel by Martina McBride, hits too close to home.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@Jeephikelove "Hits too close to home." That's exactly right.
NewBeginnings7790 · 41-45, F
The Pentatonix do an amazing rendition of this song.

For me, there are quite a few.
SW-User
Yes, although sometimes I torture myself with them
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@SW-User There can be value to that!
looping · 18-21

There's a few songs with very strong emotions to me, that I prefer not listening to, for me not to get fully emotional and live through the trauma ones more.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@SUPERVlXEN Exactly. Brings it right up.
Ducky · 31-35, F
Nope. Even if a song is innately sad, it's never been enough to where I can't listen to them. Unless in the sense that I just didn't enjoy the song.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@Ducky Interesting to see a response where it's not the case.
SW-User
I don't think so... I like sad songs, especially when they match my mood. For some reason, they don't make me more depressed. Instead, I feel sort of companioned by them, if that makes sense.
Adstar · 56-60, M
Police: King of Pain.. 1983

I remember when i was young listening to it when i was deep in depression.. NOT a good song to listen to when you are in that state of mind..
helsbels · 31-35, F
Not personally but there are songs that people have told me about that have sad connections for them, so when I hear them now I get second-hand sadness 😩
Iwillwait · M
Great song.
What gets you? The haircut?
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@Iwillwait Lol, who's haircut. Buckley's?
Iwillwait · M
@Bumbles In the lyrics Brother.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@Iwillwait Lol, indeed.

@Jungleman Oh, indeed. Beautiful song, and no one could sing like Karen. Singers are often praised for hitting high notes, but Karen's lower octave is what set her apart.
