It's all about lessons..
PerfectionOfTheHeart · 46-50, F
You could definitely put that “they entered my life for this reason” spin on it when the relationship is going really great because it proves that there’s still a bit of magic that exists inside of us and within the universe. Could put that same spin on it when it’s taken an unfortunate spin though because when we’re hurting and looking for answers, that line of thinking becomes a part of our coping mechanism as we try to make sense of the outcome. But honestly think it’s all random, which is even more mind blowing when the timing is right for two people to really click.
JustNik · 51-55, F
Specifically, no. I don’t give any thought to a grand master plan that says a given person comes into my life for a given purpose at a given time. Not saying that there isn’t such a plan…just that I can’t know and don’t bother about it. I do believe everyone enters our lives with an offer of opportunity though, to learn, to be a good thing. If the phrase was used in that way, I would say yes.

I am a firm believer not to trust many people at all
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Umile Me too.
HobNoblin · 36-40, M
I believe that everything is connected. Not in some mystical, ethereal way but nuts and bolts connected. The connections are complex. Often they are too complex to work out but not always. The mere nature of people you are connected with will cause them to meet others who will meet you. This despite their nature being quite different from your own. Even something as simple as gathering fire wood might cause you to pass through a certain town. This leads to you eating there using mechanics services there, buying clothes and thus meeting various people there. All because you prefer wood heat ,or like cooking on it or the sound of a fire helps you sleep. There are so many connections.

I do.
Sometimes the worst people and things happen and disrupt everything....sometimes the best happen just when we need it most.
I really like something i heard once from a woman who had an nde. - "stuff doesnt happen to you, it happens for you, and once you realize this, it changes its meaning"
Which i think i does. Well for me it does.
It helps me stop asking "why me?", and more ...... "What now?, which direction?"
Which is a completely different mindset.
Change is necessary.....and if you dont willingly, life forces you to.

@OogieBoogie That's an interesting perpsective. Thanks.

I believe everything happens for a reason but not everyone walks into your life for a reason. It’s all just a matter of being in the right place at the right time or wrong place at wrong time.
ElRengo · 70-79, M
With full respect for people whom think otherwise and IMO, I take those options on what somehow technically is called a "false dilemma".
Except for some specific cases, the opposite of on purpose is not ramdomness.
Yes, some special people made a strong, bold impact on my life.
And yes, the interactions with all others shaped significative aspects of who I am.
But no, I don´t attribute this to some kind of a priori mystic plan but to the path traced by choices over life contraints.
Includding the intrinsic social nature of our species, the times we walk through.
That is not (IMO) and neither "karma" nor the flip of a coin.

Yes I do believe they come and some go, for a reason … even multiple reasons…
IMO, we’re lucky to learn the reasons… especially when one enters your life…
But even when they may exit… hopefully we understand and are shaped by it in some form or fashion

I don’t know. I guess it seems a bit presumptuous to me.
Plus, two people see the exact same “encounter” differently. That doesn’t mean that the event occurred two different ways, so viewpoints are fabricated into one’s reality or conviction. I think we overestimate the meaning of circumstances.
There are a lot of wonderful people in the world. The simple math of randomness means you’re going to meet some. Who it is doesn’t matter until you stop and take the time listen, share and learn.

@LadyBronte I just assume that water finds its level, so both have needs met. Both are giving. Both are receiving. Both are teaching.
Let’s take love. We both feel the same when loved, but the need it fills could be entirely different. Mine might be more physical. Yours might be about the comfort of safety, yet both trigger the same emotion.
Maybe I preach happiness, but I receive friendship in return. So am I really the teacher or a student of your friendship? Again, water finding its level is the reality. How we perceive it is our own “movie”.

@Adogslife Interesting thoughts. Thank you for providing your perspective.
I think each of us have our own perceptions of life, love, and relationships that have been tempered and shaped by our own personal life experiences. Some good, some bad, none exactly the same as anyone else's. Perhaps, that's why there is such a disparity between beliefs and understanding.
We all have something to teach and we all have something to learn. Perhaps we are, simultaneously, both student and teacher combined, working in tandem so well, we don't recognize the ebb and flow of the roles.
I'm honestly not sure what the answer is, but it is interesting to ponder.

@LadyBronte That’d be my sentiments. 😊

There is a reason, but it ain't cosmic. They are in my life because I allowed them to be c: or they tried to force their way in and I am currently trying to remove them >:/ Those are generally the two reasons.

I believe its random. And for that reason you need to be watchful. Like The Stones said.
"You cant always get what you want. But if you try sometimes, you get what you need."😷

I do. I feel they come to teach us what we need to change about ourselves , what we accept. What we don't want anymore . Things we don't like about ourselves so we can ascend.

@LadyBronte Hmm idk really. I think most people apply and attach meanings to things based on circumstances or subjectivity.

It's completely random who happens to cross my path and they not as much come into my life as I pick who I want to give my attention to, probably based on my already existing prejudice that I carry with me from my family and previous experiences with people. Of course, certain types of people don't even have a chance to come into my life as I avoid places where I'd be more likely to meet them. I believe that from a large part we are responsible for the kind of people we surround ourselves with. The rest of encounters are completely random.

Yes.
I speak from personal experience.
There are random encounters - mere coincidence; transients that have little bearing on the course of our lives.
Others, step in to fill the role of mentor, confidant, or messengers of hope just when we need them. Their timing is flawless - serendipitous; divinely inspired, even.
They are the wind at our back, a light in the darkness; leading us back to who and where the universe intends us to be. They are our "earth angels" among us.

I'm not sure, but I do know there are those few (both good and bad), who have changed me, made me a better person, and a more thoughtful person.
I think it's a mix, but I think the mix is more happenstance than anything.
