Is breakfast really the most important meal of the day?

CrazyMusicLover31-35
No. I sometimes feel much better if I skip it.
AlchemyFox36-40, F
@pdockal oook I don鈥檛 think you understand anorexia but okay sir
pdockal56-60, M
@AlchemyFox
I don't have it
It's horrible to have
It's about precipitation
But i understand food and meals
And the comment wasn't about axoria
AlchemyFox36-40, F
@pdockal fact is your comment wasn鈥檛 necessary. I know other users here who struggle with eating disorders and that was why I made my comment. Correcting me was demeaning. I know wtf breakfast is. Meals and nourishment for someone with an eating disorder aren鈥檛 like the clockwork you鈥檙e accustomed to.

No need for mansplaining

Years ago, the New York Times investigated the sources of various popular claims about breakfast, such as being the most important meal of the day, or that you will gain weight if you do not eat breakfast, etc. It turns out that just about all of these claims originated from "studies" done by the breakfast food companies themselves, or from sham research groups with names like "Breakfast Research Institute" that were created by these companies.

It seems to me that people vary widely in terms of their eating habits. Some people make breakfast the biggest meal of the day. Some people skip it completely. Some people do not have "meals" in the ordinary sense but simply graze on small but frequent amounts of food during the day.

Do what works for you!

@DrWatson Eating a big breakfast is too much for me. I had a banana and almond butter with a cup of hot green tea for breakfast this morning. That鈥檚 plenty for me.
DrWatson70-79, M
@cherokeepatti In my case, I have changed over the years. I used to skip breakfast altogether. Nowadays, I eat a big breakfast. If I have a light one, I am hungry all morning.
cherokeepatti61-69, F
@DrWatson I think the fiber in the banana combined with green tea helps keep my appetite down. I feel hungrier if I don鈥檛 have green tea or a banana.

It is because probably it starts you up for the day and gives you energy. For me though dinner is my most important meal of the day, if I don鈥檛 sit down and have dinner I wake up hungry in the middle of the night and I have to go downstairs and potentially see a ghost in the kitchen.
Nevaeh008136-40, F
@SW-User That's how I get fat,man. Smh.
SW-User
@Nevaeh0081 I try to avoid snacking in the middle of the night by sitting down and eating dinner in the evening. If I rush or eat too early/go out after then I get hungry. Eating toast, nuts or a packet of crisps in the middle of the night occasionally is unlikely to make anyone fat.

Although not eating makes some people irritable, there's some good evidence to show that it can make you more productive. According to researchers from Yale University and the British Neuroscience Association, the stomach hormone that stimulates hunger when you have an empty stomach also promotes new brain cell growth.

Researchers found that fasting for 16 hours is beneficial to your body as long as you do not have comorbidities. If planned well, a 16-hour intermittent fasting diet provides you with many long-lasting health benefits. It is one of the easy diets to follow. But initially, it will be hard on the body.

I get to work at 4 o鈥檆lock in the morning. I eat at 7:15 am break time. And when I鈥檓 home on Sundays I don鈥檛 eat right when I get up. Sometimes I don鈥檛 eat for hours. So no I don鈥檛 think breakfast is that important
cherokeepatti61-69, F
I skip it sometimes but have been eating it the past few months. Haven鈥檛 gained weight which surprised me especially since it鈥檚 winter.
Barny5256-60, M
Breakfast like a king, dinner like a prince, supper like a poor man and stay nice and slim,, didn鈥檛 work for me !!
Convivial26-30, F
Not sure if it's the most important... But you do need fuel to get through the day... Otherwise you fall over
SharonF
Breakfast is the first meal of the day. If one doesn't have a first meal, one would eventually starve to death.
Nevaeh008136-40, F
It's when you can/need to eat the most.

So, you can burn it off throughout the day.
helenS36-40, F
Yes, huge amounts of black coffee with lots of sugar, to get the engine running...
Max4126-30, M
But you are a witch . And in winter you might hibernate .
pdockal56-60, M
Yes but most don't realize how much
helenS36-40, F
@pdockal I'm one of those. I'm simply not hungry in the morning.
pdockal56-60, M
@helenS
Doesn't matter ... put something in your belly and your day will be much better and less likely to put on weight ... you NEED fuel especially when you first wake up
ChipmunkErnie70-79, M
Probably not -- but it was a good add slogan for cereal-makers.
SW-User
If it's the first meal then, yep.
Longpatrol31-35, M
To me it is, always wake up hungry.
assemblingaknob26-30, F
Yessssssss
SW-User
To me it is
TheDisciplinarian61-69, M
Indeed it is
Most Important about it though
Is placing needed energy and fluids
From the lack of same in prior 8 to 10 hours

It need not be a big meal
Though we All are used to as well as have different preferences
iamelijah26-30, M
Yes, because it gives you energy before going to work.

But it depends on your body. Me right now, I have to skip dinner. I eat on breakfast, lunch until tea time.
Entwistle56-60, M
I seldom eat breakfast. I can't face food until I've been up for an hour or two.
SW-User
It sure is first thing in the morning. 馃尀
BeefySenpieM
I would not do well without it, so yes
It is if you die before lunch.
Dino11M
It is for me.

Perhaps in theory. I鈥檓 diabetic, and I鈥檝e noticed that if I skip breakfast (like I used to), sometimes my numbers are skewed. So I鈥檒l have a light breakfast, but I will eat.
DrWatson70-79, M
@bijouxbroussard My wife is diabetic too. Like you, she eats regularly, but not too much at any one time.
SW-User
