By remembering how often and for how much I have been forgiven.
34 [a]Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them: for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.
Luke 23:34

21 [a]Then came Peter to him, and said, Master, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I shall forgive him? unto seven times?
22 Jesus said unto him, I say not to thee, Unto seven times, but, Unto seventy times seven times.

By remembering that forgiveness is for me and not them. Then its easier to do.
By accepting that aspect about them and understanding they may have a reason for it even if it's not logical to you.
If the lie is big enough and you are unable to trust them again, you don't have to endure it. You just have to move on.

It takes a while but once you get to the point you can forgive that means you can let go. No need to forget though. Probably a hard lesson.

By realizing that all humans lie in different ways. No-one is above it and it's not the end of the world.

I’m honestly working through that right now in my life…

It depends on what they were dishonest about. Some things I can definitely understand and forgive. Some things, however, will never be forgiven nor forgotten.

I can't stand compulsive lying if I'm close to someone, like it actually annoys me. I'll just keep my distance from then on if I'm always having to question their narrative
ScreamingFox · 41-45, F
I can forgive, but I don't forget and question whatever they tell me from there on out. I don't like liars though and I will typically avoid them.
exexec · 70-79, C
I want to forgive, so I give them a chance to tell the truth or give me a reason why they cannot be honest with me.
theweekdy · 22-25, M
Dishonesty is a crack you can’t unsee. You can fix it but the line stays. Forgiveness means accepting that the line is there and knowing when it’s time to walk away
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
I guess by trying to understand WHY they were dishonest. But you might not be able to forgive, even then.
PatientlyWaiting25 · 46-50, F
Forgiveness is easier, forgetting? Not so much. Trust is so easily broken.

Remember that we're only human and we make mistakes. If they do it more than once, that's a different story.

Forgive, but never forget and never trust.

Takes time and they need to prove I can trust them again

NO........................That is why I cannot forgive any liberal or socialist as I have yet to meet or hear any of them tell the truth or be trusted with my money.
AngelUnforgiven · 51-55, F
You dig deep, you find out why, and you decide whether you sympathize and understand their reasons for doing it.

You let time pass and try to build a bridge to get them to understand their mistake.

Spit out some dishonesty of my own and see how that goes down.
FoxyQueen · 51-55, F
You don't. You just walk away.
If they claim to be a whole a$$ adult, why are they being dishonest?

Make them irrelevant.
If they’re irrelevant, their dishonesty isn’t that important.
