How they treat people who can do nothing for them. Before I was even introduced to my husband, I saw him help an elderly homeless man to his feet after some kids running by had knocked him down. Other people had just passed by, not even noticing.

I have very good intuition and have since a little girl. Your gut tells you when something is not right. Plus, how they treat you behind your back. And if they don't make a judgment against you, until they have talked to you. If they're honest and genuine and wouldn't think of hurting you. They encourage and support you in hard times as well as good. They won't ask you to do something you don't want to do or think is right. They'll be with you through thick and thin. Trust is a big thing.

When there are no consequences for doing the wrong thing, and everyone's on board with doing the wrong thing... but they work to show others empathy anyway. Even if it's ugly.

You can't. You have to make a leap of faith each time and then have the fortitude to do it again and again no matter what happens. Otherwise, you will grow up to be bitter, disillusioned, and asking questions like this to random people on the Internet.

Observe their behavior over a period of time and draw your own conclusions.

Little things for me. See how they interact with service workers. Or kids, animals, the elderly or the disabled. See if they throw their trash away or have 'please' and 'thank you' as part of their lexicon. Someone who smiles easily is a pretty good indicator too.

Good or bad is really a human construct or concept. Someone decided some things are acceptable and put it in the good pile and other things in the bad pile and then proceeded to label people overall as one or the other and somehow it caught on with all humans. When the truth is, we're all capable of both good or bad.
It is up to you to decide what you accept in someone (or not) and whether the things you do not accept can be overlooked by the things you value. It will be a different measure for everyone.

How they treat other people, how they handle difficult situations,

By how loyal they are in your absence. Their empathy.. how they treat people in general.

how they act in front of someone in need, what they say when they are truly angry, when you take away all their opportunities(not on purpose), see if they would take a wrong action to improve their situation then see the reaction.

if it is within your parameters of good then they are otherwise not.

My intuition

Only time will tell. Usually a long time, but there are good people who once in awhile may do things we consider bad, and there are bad people who in certain occasions may seem to do good.

I feel like no one is either fully good or bad. They act and react in a way they learned for how to survive whether it be a good or bad act. I found that gray areas exist and nothing is black or white

This was asked just a while ago here, but the answer is pretty much the same. It is time that gives you that window of opportunity into each and every individual. Biblically of course, "by their works you shall know them," is the truest litmus test.
You only need to watch people.....what they say and do over a period of time that truly reveals what sums them up.

I pay close attention to how they treat others and how they compare themselves to others / measure other people. Entitled people, regardless of their justifications, tend to be pretty comfortable screwing over whoever them deem ‘has it coming’ / owes them.

See if they have an SW account. Then, draw your own conclusions.

People are neither purely good or bad.

Each one has the capacity for either one in different circumstances and conditions or even both.

Those convinced they're always a good person are most frequently , far from it.

I don’t always know...they can fake to be good and be rotten inside. Trust me, u can’t always tell. Therefore, I proceed with caution..

I don't know because no one is perfect but I guess some people only make few bad decisions compared to others who might make a lot of bad decisions because they just don't care.
