I really liked EP. I think there were a lot more in-depth conversations and I made some longtime friends, but that might have just been how the internet was back then vs how it is now.
It's easy to look back with fondness while wearing the rose-tinted glasses of nostalgia, but boy was it a party!
I met real people on there, people who became good friends (online and in real life) It was before Twitter turned everyone into keyboard warriors. Yes, there were disagreements and trolls aplenty, but even the trolls made it an experience (apart from the bad attitude/axe-to-grind sort). There was certainly more engagement back then, I think it's because back then it was something new and fresh and we hadn't learned to (or chose not to) jump on every post we disagreed with. If you didn't like the post - just move on to the next one without judgment. That was the backbone of EP - respectful engagement. The internet was fairly new so we made the rules up as we went along. I know some refer to it as 'The Wild West' and there is probably a lot of truth in that analogy but boy was it fun!!
So to me, the biggest difference between EP and SW is this - I pop on and off SW, sometimes going months without visiting. EP on the other hand EP was our 'go-to' social media, almost addictive. the people (and times) of EP literally made me jump on planes several times to visit my EP friends, it had that much power back then (for me anyway). SW on the other hand . . . . whilst it is what it is and there are those that find it serves a purpose, it certainly ain't no replacement for EP.
Things seemed good in the early days of EP ,but we are all a lot older now and it us that have changed. SW is providing a great service. Long may it continue.
sure but I preferred the structure of EP much more the open forum was a lobby and if you commented on a subject it could only be read by those in the group
@supersnipe There may be a certain element of nostalgia involved. "Things were better in the past" is a time-related version of "The grass is greener on the other side" 😏
I recall reading some extremely intense and intimate posts on Experience Project, and encountering many interesting people. It would be interesting to know how many are now on SW. I think EP was a place where people felt safe to express their true selves. When people are free to do that, it makes you realise how cultural norms and social taboos make it almost impossible for anyone to discuss their intimate experiences and express their true personalities openly and honestly. I was disappointed indeed to find that EP had gone.
@SeekingConnection It's surprising to see how seriously that old site was taken by many of it's users. Apparently the site focused on connecting like-minded individuals, and for a while that seemed to have worked very well. And then they were shipwrecked, and they disappeared, and EP was set up as a replacement. But EP is not just SW v.2.0, it's something else. Many of us are here just to have some fun, to let off steam, and maybe, perhaps, to meet people with similar interests.
the first picture is missing me standing in the door (hatch actually) naked with a beer, the other looks like SW's ship has bigger tits. I like bigger tits, I also like beer... what were we talking about???
Ever since A.I. took over this site. Me wishing EP comes back but yet again, if they did come back, then they'll attempt this same Bullshit just like on here.
Seems like every websites are going to the same route....I don't know what is Fascinating about them.
It's complete Garbage. Makes me wants to hate A.I. even more.
@FreestyleArt I can see some users in the header who I communicated with several years ago, and they have been inactive for a very long time. I even sent one of them a pm to find out if he's still here, but he did not reply.
