Im sorry for your loss and for the place you're in at the moment.
Like you stated, give it a chance. Maybe things will click. If they dont thats okay. Not every professional is for every person. Research some more and find a new one. It's frustrating, especially when your're looking for help, but the end result is worth it.... because you're worth it.

I'm really sorry youre having a negative experience. I don't know, but I suspect finding the right therapist would be like finding the right doctor - it might take a few tries. There are certain people we just don't mesh well with, and that makes it difficult to form any type of trust or confidence which would be important. Talking to you about her pet makes it sound as though she just wants to commiserate with you rather than work professionally with you. It also might be that the pet is the sum total of her life experience with relationships, which surly wouldn't translate well to someone who has had a deeper emotional relationship, like you and your spouse. To be honest, I would be offended if anyone compared the death of their pet to a spouse. I hope you can find a therapist that you fewl comfortable with and who can help you find your inner peace.

I love pets ,but it doesn't seem comparable to me my husband wasn't a pet.

@Justmeraeagain I agree.

I feel for you. I've noticed mine also can talk about herself too. But what frustrates me is she mainly nods to very serious issues I have. No real healing methods, tips or any way of challenging my anxiety. I will probably change soon..I really have not had a lot of positive experiences with most therapists. 😟

@Coralmist to be honest I haven't either

Cancel the appt and find another therapist. She's using you as her therapist. Kinda weird as you are paying her to help you but you are actually paying her to use you. Very unprofessional. Run!

@Blondily
I did debate it for some time, but then I decided this just wasn't going to work for me.

I'm beginning to think that ,too.
Sometimes ,I'm not sure ,because I just cut and run if I don't like something, but I find myself dreading the sessions which can't be good.

@Justmeraeagain if you feel this same way after your next visit find another one for sure
girl, just get a new therapist. you will regret staying longer. if the shoe doesn’t fit.. don’t try to make it.. you’re only torturing yourself.

okay, that’s not too bad 🥹 have you been to any therapists before her? @Justmeraeagain

@deathfairy really long time ago and she wasn't much better .
once I told her I didn't think writing down all my blessings was going to make me not depressed she said she couldn't do anything for me and basically was booted out of the office.

lol, how weak. and you aren’t wrong, writing down blessings only works for some things, like rewiring your mentality short term. and a therapist that can’t take a challenge or a truth from their client has things they need to work on themselves.
i would change her to someone else, see how the new one feels and if it still isn’t a good fit, since you mentioned it maybe try the group therapy? again, i am just a random on sw, and i believe you know what you need better than i can ever say.
everything is easier done in thought, and opinions are the easiest thing to give out. you deserve to be heard and seen and understood. i am proud of you for making the time to meet yourself in your therapy space, you deserve a good therapist who can meet you there also. @Justmeraeagain
