I never made an account, but from reading comments on Reddit from people who had an account, I feel I missed out on something special. People were talking about friendship, community, etc. I guess that's what I get for being stubborn.

That's not the whole problem. The whole problem would include gathering of information on people. Yet that is a social media problem as a whole, that this Congress would never touch.
It's the combination that's the real problem. China can determine what your interests are from the information gathered and push certain topics to sway you a different way.
This can is done in such away like repetition is used in psychological mesmerizing techniques.

Seriously, the "ban" probably won't last beyond Monday or Tuesday at latest. Trump will reinstate it, making himself look like a big hero. Funny how it was banned exactly a day before he takes office.

I never used it, but I think the ban is stupid. Foreign influence is present on every social media platform. It doesn’t matter who owns it. I saw the little message about Trump on there this morning though since my daughter tried to share a video with me yesterday, so I expect someone will give him another wad of cash and it’ll be back before long.

Closing TikTok down has nothing to do with China influencing people, it’s got my to do with people learning / finding out too much, it’s about keeping people ignorant, and still hating China, and the Chinese people, before Hitler started killing the Jews, they had to make the people hate the Jews first
