@Cinderellagirl USA congress banned it because it can be used as a tool for China in voting. And it did do some influencing.
That's not the whole problem. The whole problem would include gathering of information on people. Yet that is a social media problem as a whole, that this Congress would never touch.
It's the combination that's the real problem. China can determine what your interests are from the information gathered and push certain topics to sway you a different way.
This can is done in such away like repetition is used in psychological mesmerizing techniques.
