Whole day 1 without smoking.

I HOPE I dont buy a vape tomorrow. I really need to quit. I want to quit. But im very addicted. 17 years straight. My body knows. And i need to stop. But i dont know how. So i threw it away yesterday. So all last night and all day today. Today has been tough. Maybe i should get nicotine gum. Or the patches. But smokinhg is my vice. Its all i think about lately. I dont bring it to work. And ill wait all day to hit the regular vape. I dont even want thc. But then ill hit it all night long. And on my days off i hit it all day long. I just stopped today. But i feel like i need it.

If you got a day already, just get another one tomorrow and another one the next day and soon you will have too many to lose.

Try to think of it this way. If it was easy to quit it'd be easy to start back up. The harder is to stop the harder it will be to start back up when you realize it only takes one to get going again. And that's the truth.

I quit smoking three times. The first time, I had put for about 8 months and didn't know that it only takes one to get going again. I thought that since I had already quit it would be no problem if I had a few after the one and then quit again after the few. The you turned into a pack which turned into a few packs which turned into dates which kept getting pushed back. It took me about 2 years before I quit again. This time I knew that I couldn't even have one or I was going to be smoking full blast again.

That one came after surviving the first of many to come Skud missile attacks. I knew I'd be smoking a pack a day from that point until I was ready to quit again. That time came 3 years later on 4.20, of all days. ..4.20.94.

It was tough because I also dipped Copenhagen (not at the same time). What helped me were lifesavers candies and trident chewing gum. Its the right size and consistency to be chewed all day without working out my jaw so much, and it always had flavor.

My thoughts about the patches and the nicotine gum is that they keep you lingering with your addiction to nicotine, making it easier to slip back into using it the way you miss the most.

Think about it like this, they're killing you. ..and you're paying for it. Idk what they cost these days, but think about all the money you'll save and spend that much money on yourself when you get that amount of time away from smoking

HOLY SMOKES!! I just checked. The price of cigarettes in my state is $11.71 a pack?! An iphone 17 pro is about $1,200. That means you smoke an iphone 17 pro every 102½ days.

You should set your sights like that. It wont be long before you lose the craving. ..and please remember this. I really only takes one cigarette to get you smoking full speed again. I dont mean it might only take one, i mean it will only take one.

Best wishes

Bless you. Never wanted to give up but, as a part-time counsellor, I know that some clients do respond to rather than that definitive negative of "I'm not going to.." which can act like a red rag to a bull - saying no adds an instant attraction and places it clear in the mind...risking to do whatever the vice is again. Ok? - to the following..

But what does seem to work for a lot of people - and I include myself when I stopped taking cocaine - is the mantra of "I don't want this, presently.." making it a decision of right here, right now. It works until the next hurdle...then repeat that mantra again..etc.

Best of luck. Keep carrying on.

This will be hard. And you might fall off the wagon. But just get back on and keep getting back on. My wife and I both did this almost 50 years ago, We promised each other we wouldnt bring children into a smoking household and we made it work.No Patches. No Nicotine gum.. You can do it. Just dont stop quitting, ever...😷

I quit after 15 years the way Alcoholics Anonymous says to quit drinking. I told myself if I want one I'll have one, no pressure, but I don't need one right now. Just stay in the moment. I carried my cigarettes around for 4 days and threw them away. That was 45 years ago and I've never had another one.

Congratulations on making it through day 1. That’s amazing. Keep going. It will get easier. If it’s a hand to mouth thing try getting lollipops and sucking on them for a few days

You don't need it. Your body only pretends to.

Fun fact: it takes 21 days to break a habit.
Try to find something else to do when you wanna reach for a smoke. Maybe grab a pen and doodle or write down your thoughts or something? Maybe try to figure out what it is about the smoke you crave? (A pen bc it has somewhat the same shape as a cigarette, but with unlomited potential)

You can do this, lady. You're strong and able to quit.

I wanna end with my favorite quote:

i quit smoking cold turkey i tried patches ONCE and that made me trow up my diner just thinking about it i get the shivers so cold turkey work for me now i am smoke free walk better sleep better and my room does not smell like an ash tray of a busy bar no more lol
Quitting was the hardest thing I ever did.... BUT VERY MUCH WORTH IT!

72 hours.... After the first 72 hours, it is all psychological.

Good luck to you 🤞 Good job so far . 🙏🏻 🕯 🙏🏻

You can do it . My brother and my dad did . Dad put a pack of gun in his shirt pocket instead of cigarettes .

Congratulations! Keep to it! After a week it gets easier, but it’s never truly easy.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Cowboybob Correct. It takes a week to clear the nicotine withdrawal out. But you still have all the habits and psychological triggers to overcome. There are tricks for many of those too. Depending on which ones you face. But it may mean changing a few other habits for the time being.. I had to give up coffee for a year or two.😷

Decide now to never fall into the trap of 'just one more'. That doesn't work. Choose every morning to have quite for ever.
