I made it almost a week without smoking but I broke down and bought a pack last night… the cravings were just getting unbearable. Now I need to decide if I have the willpower to try again 😩
@Fishy You said: "If you end up having a couple of cigs and break your clean streak, try to stick to the same amount of cigs or less tomorrow."
I tried that and it couldn't work. I wondered why I needed to smoke. One time, I was watching my dog sneezing and fretting when I lit a cigarette and smoked. Damn! I was sucking smoke into my lungs and was oblivious to it. The silly dog was aware of something I wasn't. I stopped smoking.
@sree251 @Fishy It's like any other addiction: First, you have to be absolutely ready to address it. Then you have to find what works for you, whether it is cold turkey, weaning, a 12-step program or other group therapy session, etc. Like grieving for the departed, it is different for all of us. When my wife finally decided she was ready to quit smoking, she opted for cold turkey. That was typical of her personality; might take time for her to make up her mind, but an iron will once it was made up. An online chat friend who had gone through it suggested a charm bracelet with an ornament for each milestone. My wife wasn't a charm bracelet type, but she liked pins and brooches. So the first couple of weeks I got a new one for her everyday she went smokefree. Then one for each week she was smoke free. Then one for each month. Until the cravings disappeared. Whether it helped or not--as I say, she had an iron will once her mind was made up--she appreciated the support; wearing a reminder, waiting for the next "treat".
@kylee1992 it is easy too say but do not let one set back defeat you if the mental stamina is there and your willingness too want too give up and resolve well give it another go
This makes me want to try quitting again! I'll go to sleep and not smoke tomorrow, and start with day 1...And try to make it to a week like you did, I will still have my carton on me just in case I lose my mind, but 1 cigarette won't get me down...I won't let it! I will try try again! God bless us on our journey's to become non smokers!
When I quit smoking I did it the way AA says to quit drinking. I just told myself if I wanted a cugarette I would have one but I don't need one right now. No stress, no pressure, just staying in the moment. I carried my cigarettes around for 4 days and gave them away. That was in 1981 and I haven't had one since.
I only made it to 24 hours and then had a cigarette and was very light headed, maybe after this pack, I'll wake up and try try again! Congratulations on making it to 6 whole days!!!! You did amazing, you're almost there, sure you had a setback but jump back on the band wagon and try try again! God bless you!
6 days way to go! What was the trigger last night? Of course you can do it again! Learn from the setback , it's feddback. By learning your triggers beforehand you can come up with coping strategies for when they flare up.
Start by cutting down. If you can get to five or six a day, that's a good start. The first three days, then three weeks, then three months are the hurdles to pass. It isn't easy; took me eleven attempts before I stopped in 1984.

It's impossible to go cold turkey completely. Don't worry, things like this will happen. You will ABSOLUTELY have the willpower to try agin.
@kylee1992 do your body a favor, there is medication you can use, it does require a prescription, and substitute nicotine, as patches or gum. They are proven to be safe and effective v
@kylee1992 Well, at least you could depend on them to get you started smoking. We all need good mentors in our life to help keep us on the straight and narrow!
