"Harbour City:".
I wouldn't say that they were "fun" - but people do like to talk down about the area where I live... and there's a certain degree of rivalry between us and the other town in our borough.
Every time money is spent on one - the other starts complaining "Why do they get this... and we get nothing - again". It doesn't matter that the money came from a ringfenced grant that must be spent on the town that was awarded it by law... "they" are getting something "we" are not. It's like watching children in the school playground fighting over the "good" ball.

Sadly, due to some shootings in the past, my City is known as Shottingham...
However, more funnily sweeties, due to some Earl or someone, it was originally called Snottingham...as in the Earl Of Snot!
Always found that dead funny!
🤣

One of my favourites was an ex PM here who said of you're not living in Sydney you're just camping out 😜

My home city of Stoke-on-Trent is known as The Potteries, because they make pottery.
Edinburgh, the nearest city to where I live, is known as Auld Reekie, because of the chimneys and smoke.

My hometown used to be called little Chicago. It was about half way between Chicago and las vegas, so it had an alarming about of mob influence and drug running up until about 2000.

A lot of residents seem to not like Michigan. I have never been, but never heard anything good.
My hometown, nothing real interesting.

I live in downtown Toronto Canada and it has two nicknames.
Older Torontonians refer to Toronto just as the northern Native Indians referred to Toronto, which was "The Big Smoke", in reference to Toronto producing a lot of coal smoke when coal was burned to generate electricity.
Toronto's other nickname is "Hogtown" because Toronto is where the vast majority of Canadian livestock end their journey at the Toronto Stock Yards.

@bijouxbroussard Where does the "Baghdad" name come from bijoux?
bijouxbroussard · F
@craig7
Baghdad by the Bay – title of a book of essays by Herb Caen, and a nickname he used for the city because of the cosmopolitan cultural diversity it shares with the medieval city of Baghdad.

We just have a commonly known name for local wind. It's an abbreviation of "Fucking *name of the city* Wind" and every local knows what it means.
