I'm curious to see

How many people see something on FB, here or elsewhere and look it up for themselves to see if it is accurate or just take what they have seen at face value.

I see a lot of people say they "saw something", but then provide no actual information. Then i go an look things up and find the information they "saw" was wrong, skewed or misaligned.

I am guilty of not looking things up from time to time, but when questioned on them, I will and correct things. I make mistakes. But I do try to look things up to make sure things are correct.

It just seems so many do not and I have to say, this is part of the problem with people today.

We literally can't take anything at face value anymore. There is sooooo much misinformation and propaganda out there now. We are truly in a troubling time when it comes to information, but so many people are still wanting to take things as truth at face value which only hurts us.

I cannot take just based on face value, i sure do verify or at leat try to verify the source of information. And I know many here do the same.

Following blindly is like commiting suicide.

This is true, and with so much misinformation and propaganda, we are responsible to educate ourselves and verify information.

I’ve stopped believing any news people share on fb, instagram, here or whatever.

I go to allsides.com to see what both sides, politically, say about a topic, and then learn from there.
I remember years back already somebody posted on here "I just found out that Sandy Hook [mass shooting at a US school] was fake". Well no, you didn't, because it was not fake. You were looking around on line and fell into a particularly ugly conspiracy theory.
It is sad and enraging that with so much knowledge at our fingertips, there is also so much falsehood and so many of us are caught in these webs of lies.

I noticed AI-made fake news of disasters on Facebook lately and honestly, that is a pretty f**ked up thing to do.
It was also a bit of a wake up call for me and now if something catches my attention, I'm going to verify it before telling anyone else about it.

What I absolutely hate the most are articles about supposed local accidents or disasters and when you scroll down, you'll learn that it was just a crisis training. Imagine you're planning a travel and suddenly see that there was a massive car crash on the road you're supposed to pass through, closed from the both sides and only then you read that it was a training that took place 2 days ago. 🤦🏻‍♀

@CrazyMusicLover AI is getting very realistic.

@LadyBronte I think people want constant validation for their anger, which can look like enjoyment of being offended. Anger does create a sort of dopamine reaction that people can develop a need for. I do think social media definitely helps that need to grow.

@FoxyQueen Agreed!

I always try to look these things up but one problem is, eventually, how do you know which information is correct? (Excepting the obvious ones that are pretty prima facia loony) That's a big issue underlying the whole discussion. Everything is suspect.

@valentini This is true.

I don't get my info from YouTube or TikYoc vids because honestly, I'm not going to trust someone who has monetized their information and providing content for profit. If they were honestly distilling info, the monetization wouldn't be there. (I'm not against people making money, but if your profit is based on videos that are increasing a political divide, your content is garbage.)

I stick with the main sources now, mostly outside of the US. I have been listening to podcasts done by journalists and they often complain how many people are produxing content with literally little to no research and just putting things out there that are the equivalent of an Op Ed in a newspaper.

It is hard to get a lot of verifications
and will only get harder as we go.
I do try on important topics.

I always check and try to get to the original source.

I do... Trust but verify ;)

I try to fact check everything

I assume most of what I see and read is fake these days, even on mainstream media.

So much of what you see on the net or on the news is pure BS or a misrepresentation of the subject.
LavidaRaq · F
So many think, if it’s on FB it’s gotta be true. Not so
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
If people did critically appraise everything they read rather than passively accepting it as fact, most populist politicians would start to become seriously worried 😌
