Getting up to mischief as an adolescent, playing outdoors and being carefree, playing in 1ft of snow for the 1st time in our yard( it doesnt snow in south africa but el nino came through for us that year) watching the hale bopp comet in '97 and all the times i went exploring on my bmx alone or with a buddy.
One of my favourite memories was playing with our staffie in the mud of our pool in the rain ( my dad and brothers and i dug our pool and he fibre glassed it to completion afterwards)

Summertime. I hated school and was a bit of a loner. I loved playing with my neighbor girl but she attended a different school. She was a couple years younger, but my best friend. She was such a blessing in my life at that time. Sadly, I don't remember her last name so I can not reconnect.

Like you I had a hard childhood with physical beatings and mental abuse. Sorry for your experiences.
But what I loved the most was when my father The beater and abuser would take us fishing; he would sit and be quiet and even showed signs of being content in the moment, no screaming hitting or shouting. Even as young teens 12 to 13 out on the boat and my friend that went with us who had turret's syndrome while casting hooked my father's hat and cast the hat out into the lake. My friend reeled in the hat quickly while I was expecting the cussing and hitting to begin, but all I heard was my friend with Turrets cussing in a panic mode. My father did not say a word, but he did cut the hat free of my friend's hook, started the boat and took us to shore and left us there the rest of the day to fish as my father and brothers fished in the boat out on the lake. We ended up catching more and the biggest fish of the day when they returned to pick us up. Once my friend was dropped off and the boat cleaned and put away. I was expecting a beating and only got told my friend was not allowed to come fishing in the boat ever again.
Looking back at it was funny, considering my friends Turrets, maybe that shocked my father into not being himself, LOL. I will never know. But I do know fishing brought my father peace though he was not lucky with it.

I can't pick one. But one of the best was the real joy of seeing my friend and wanting to share cherries from our garden with her. It was so pure and I haven't experienced anything such since. I'm not sure I'm even capable of it. It's like sometimes growing up and going through life experiences corrupts us and damages our characters in nearly unimaginable way.

Picking cherries. My Uncle lifted us kids up high into the trees using the front end loader. We each had our own tree. All the really red cherries were up high. I had a bucket to fill, and I cherish the memory of looking up through green, green leaves and bright red cherries, to see the bright blue sky beyond. It was a beautiful sight...just amazing.

@4meAndyou Fun! We have a boom truck for our contracting business. 70 feet high! We get in it and look at the stars at night sometimes 😁

@PromiseProtectionProvision That would be awesome here on my farm. I have no outside lights and no neighbors for a mile in any direction. So, I turned the lights off in the house and it is pitch black. That bucket truck would make you feel closer for sure at top one of my hills.
@WillaKissing Heck yes! Lol you can come visit us in Oregon! We live in a farming community and it's incredible in the fields laying under the stars. We used to do that after bailing fields in the summers when we first met. It was fun!

My brother picking me up after I fell in the snow every time I got up I would fall again and walked out there and lifted me up and carried me to the sidewalk. He died years later.

@AngelUnforgiven that’s such a sweet memory

Lots of good memories, but the one that stands out was pitching a perfect game in Little League, the first one in our town. It was also the only game my father missed.

Sled riding was fun. Jumping off swings. Waiting for trains to flatten pennies. Pitching pennies. Collecting pop bottles for 16 cents an 8 pack from neighbors now and then for candy. Dodgeball in school was alot of fun. Walking thru the woods nearby. Camping out..

I can't really think of good memories. Listening to music on the radio, I guess. My childhood was a nightmare.

Being on top of the hills looking down on the country side. The wind in my face and no worries. Life back in the 60s was simple

I guess playing sports and night games was my happiest memories it all just kind of binds together into one jumbled memory.

The public swimming pool a couple of blocks away. Making jackknifes off the high board then hearing the "Whoas!!" when I resurfaced :D

@rinkydinkydoink Oh my! I've never heard of these. I jack knifed the rake when I used to rake fields in the summer, but this looks funner! Funner should be a word..

When you make a good one, you can hear AND feel the "thwump" underwater.
