What would you do and where would you go?

You are out and your phone rings. It is the fire department. Your house has burned down. Everyone including pets are safe, but the house is a total loss. Where would you go? You have to live and sleep somewhere? Could you make it? What would you do?

I’d go to an extended stay hotel until loose ends got tied up. Then I’d road trip with the RV,

@Stereoguy Thanks for BC. I’m just glad to be in a place where there are good options.

Just went through a similar situation about four months ago with the wreck. We lived in a motel room until the insurance paid and we could begin rebuilding.

@Stereoguy nope. But it's probably coming if the true fascist have their way.

My home burned down in 2004. It set on 1 acre of land. I pitch a king size tent in the trees. Got camping gear out of shed out back...and set up a camp. Air mattress was my bed. Had electric company hook up a temporary connection on pole for power. Use hose for water and filled a blue kiddy pool for my tub..took bath after dark😉 Cooked on a Coleman's stove. And my toilet was a bucket.
Did this till I knew what I wanted to do. Build again or 🤷‍♀️ 🤔...
I survived!

@LadyGrace I am blessed because I lived, I did not hate, and kept the faith thru it and the healing. It was a very dear learning experience and I came out a better person.
I love my wonderful life, I love my husband, and I live on a slice of Heaven!
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@ShadowWorker I’m happy things worked out for you despite all those stressful things. You truly are a survivor.
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
I would go stay in a cheap motel until I could figure out a long term plan

I suppose I’d have to find a hotel room, or sleep in my car.

This did happen to me a few years back. A relative offered their home. Insurance paid for everything even a hotel if that was needed. It was heart wrenching.

@Stereoguy Thank you. Never know when something horrible can happen. Insurance is good to have if your able.

I'd go to my daughter's. She said I could. 🤭 We talked about it before.

@Stereoguy good morning, Stereo!🤗

My insurance will rebuild and replace , and pay for us to hotel it or lease a house until construction is completed .
4meAndyou · F
I would contact my insurance company if it was an actual house and not an apartment building or a rental. Homeowners insurance will usually put you up at a Residential Hotel and/or provide you with a mobile home in which you can live on your own property while the insurance company rebuilds for you.

@Stereoguy My mother's house caught on fire when my son and his first wife was living with her. His battery in his SUV caught on fire in the driveway, and during the night the sparks flew up onto the roof and the attic caught fire.

They had to move to the Hilton Residential Inn and had to stay there for 2 months while the water damage was being repaired. At the time, they had FOUR dogs!!!!

We just bought an RV recently. I would hope it survived and stay in it for the time being.

There's a caravan site a few miles along the road from us. There'd be plenty of parking and it would be handy for work. That would do for us, short-term. 🚙🚗🏍️👍
Fluffybull · F
@Stereoguy It's my husband's. But he has a "what's mine is yours" attitude, so I suppose she's ours 😊

@Stereoguy Just as pillion 😊 She's very heavy, weighs about a third of a ton 😯

Obviously, either stay in cheap motels for a while or bite the bullet and try to endure shacking up temporarily with the family.🧐 If I chose the latter, admittedly, I might not survive. I've lived a good long life though, so no matter. 😑
SW-User
@Stereoguy Yeah, I should probably check into that. Thanks for the reminder!

@Stereoguy This is giving me the creeps. Now I'm going to start looking out for shady characters with matches and gasoline containers creeping around my property.

@Stereoguy the only thing i can think of is heading for a wooded area and setting up camp and foraging in the suburbs , i like Animals good thing , lol most organizations designed to help you only want one thing , your support check from the government and as much as they can get , the name of the game is always Money

@Stereoguy i don't think it will but staying ok with the rent is Paramount and i'm still behind around 394 $

I’d go to Phoenix and stay with friends. Always some fire danger when you live in the mountains. I have two friends who lost houses in the Caldor fire in California. And it’s still burning and has taken 1000+ structures.

Probably go to the casino hotel the first few nights till we could find temporary housing, the insurance should cover all of that.

We would have to stay in the same school district so we would probably just lease a townhouse until we planned our next move.

I would try to find a suitable air B&B or motel. If I was stuck, I would ask my parents if I could move back until I find another place.

@Stereoguy Yup, they’re across the bridge from each other. It’s only 15 miles, which is about 30 minutes by car. The tourists tend to slow the flow. If it was 2AM, and there were no cops (guaranteed), you could feasibly make it in 22 minutes.

I own a separate rental property, I would stay in the basement
@empanadas Do you have a Radon detector? Would the renters know you was there or do you have a secret basement they don't know about?

You seem like someone who has a hard on for Disney, and I don't blame you. You just have to know how to express it without actually using key words lol
