It was easier to take the paddling and not have to explain to Mom why I had to stay after school in detention.

I've only had detention at school. I don't want a teacher giving me a whoopin though!

We weren't given a choice . Our teachers paddled us at their desk in front of the classroom . Or sent us to the principals office .

We sadly didn't have corporal punishment when I was in school but I obviously would have chosen it if I had the choice.

We don't have a choice, it is always detention. Corporate punishment is not allowed in our schools.

We were never given the choice, discipline was administered right in class with a wooden ruler or yardstick for small offences and then there was the HeadMaster's weekly "Punishment Parade" which was for more major offences and that was either the strap or the cane depending on the severity of your offence.

Back then I'd certainly have taken the detention. I value my time more with age, though.

Heat on my seat dissipates quickly, but I cannot get that detention time back.

Of these two choices alone, I'd choose detention.

But in reality, I've been suspended twice and unjustly, too.

I would have chosen the paddling as the water was to cold.
