Without having a higher power, yes.

Often, when you gain power you end up in an influential position in a system that is fundamentally corrupt and where you necessarily have to do dodgy things in order to maintain that power. The system is corrupt because it was created over many decades by people who designed it to benefit themselves and elites like them. If you're pure and incorruptible you won't fit into that system and you won't stand a chance of remaining in it.

The people who seek power are usually the least likely to use it wisely.
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
@WanderlustCat And many who gain power fear losing said power once they've gained it.
Ynotisay · M
Not necessarily. Depends on the power and the individual.

No. Corrupt people feel unburdened from punishment so they act less according to expected repercussions and more so their morals

No. NATO is purifying the world.
Power is burning off the ecosystem. Nothing corrupt about killing and purifying away all life forms.

@Roundandroundwego Microsoft and the UN/WHO are the ones primarily 'purifying' the world via The Purge.
