Would you date someone with opposite political beliefs than you?

SW-User
There's no issue with having different, even opposite beliefs. As long as you don't go overboard espousing said beliefs and maintain respect for others.
AbbeyRhode · F
No, because my political beliefs are tied to my moral standards. I could never be with anyone lacking basic morals.
SaltnLime · 70-79, M
No. It speaks to a fundamentally different belief and values system, and therefore, makes that person ultimately incompatible.

It can be done. No politics at the dinner table and no cable tv lol
BlueVeins · 22-25
No, I wouldn't date Adolf Hitler.
HeavenBesideYou · 56-60, F
Sure. Why not? Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and beliefs. The only time that your political opinion counts is when you go vote, so go vote for who you want and respect that others may feel differently.
exexec · 61-69, C
No. "Opposite" political beliefs would imply opposite values on which opinions are based. I could not date anyone whose values are totally different from mine.

It would really depend on the specific beliefs

Zaphod42 · 51-55, M
Independent, sure.
Republican, possibly.
MAGA, never.
pdockal · 56-60, M
As long s the sex was outstanding
God no. That sounds exhausting
supersnipe · 61-69, M
Much would depend on how 'opposite'. Attitudes and values go a long way towards defining who a person actually is, and if the other person's were completely different from mine then there wouldn't be room for a relationship.
KingofBones1 · 46-50, M
No. I am not a far right extremist but I could not date a far leaning leftist liberal either. Everything in moderation except for sex booze and gas for me LOL
SkeetSkeet · 100+, F
I have and it is something I would never do again. You may be the best of friends but when it comes down to serious life decisions you want your partner to support you.
deadgerbil · 26-30
@SkeetSkeet what's the tea
SkeetSkeet · 100+, F
@deadgerbil this tea has dried up
deadgerbil · 26-30
@SkeetSkeet it better dry up with the shoelace too or so help me God 🙂
Political beliefs have no place in a relationship!
What are you talking about?
You are making a relationship or a party.... 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
No. Opposite in every respect would be far too draining. Every conversation could be a minefield.
Depends if they are polical nut or not. If they don't vote perfect for me.
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
Sure. And I have. Political persuasion is not among my dating criteria.
Adogslife · 61-69, M
I married her. Different party affiliation, but we’re both fairly moderate.
I think it would depend on how strong said beliefs are.
AlittleBitGenX · 46-50, F
I’ve done that. It’s hard. Never again. They need to at least be similar.
They would have to at least be similar.
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M

Maybe twenty years ago. I wasn't quite informed enough to be firm in my positions. There are some issues I could be on opposite sides of, but if we're saying they are opposite to the majority of my beliefs then I could not do so. I just wouldn't be able to respect them.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
Hell no.
I'm far left and I'm fine with anyone up to center left. If they're far right, they can go fly a kite.
DDonde · 31-35, M
I did when I was younger.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
Nope, it wouldn’t work
tenente · 100+, M
yes. i think you can hold opposing beliefs and still have a loving supportive relationship
