I love our library. There’s an art museum connected to it and they sell some books. The price is whatever you want to donate. It’s a nice place to go and just hang out. I also have the apps and can get digital books and movies.

@samueltyler2 to honor the artist
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@LavidaRaq no, I mean the artist, why do they exhibit? I would have assume that the eventual goal is to sell their art.
LavidaRaq · F
@samueltyler2 this current art exhibit the artist has passed away but his family is who owns all his artworks. They show it to honor his love of art.

I have always LOVED my local libraries. I used the one in Halifax heavily, though it was quite small. The librarians there were SO helpful in obtaining books from the Boston public library on esoteric subjects like dying agates, and rocks and minerals and their properties.
They even WOULD have hired my recommendation for volunteer, (from the local drug abuse recovery facility), if she had not backed out. The librarians were wonderful.
I also love the library in Plymouth. Though the librarians there don't have that small town bend-over-backward way of helping you, they are still perfectly nice and helpful.
Plymouth is a larger library, and has art galleries, genealogy rooms, quilt displays, a separate area for children, an elevator, meeting rooms, programs for volunteers, free museum passes, free games for outdoors, free Kindle and ebook readers, videos of all kinds, and of course, my special favorite, REAL books. They have a large computer area, a large section for periodicals, and they offer up to 10 free copies of anything you like.
I order most of my books online, and then they are there waiting for me!

I would love to. There was a single library for this city (besides the school and university library). They decided the city needed 3 libraries. They built one a mile from here (much closer than the original one) and it has some computers, a couple of rooms for activities and meetings etc., and very few books to check out. It’s a peaceful place, usually not many people there but so small. Then they bought a bookstore that had gone out of business, so much larger, put a coffee bar in it to make it a nice place to hang out and read, study etc. Of course it’s on the side of the city where the wealthy people live .Then they built a new central library 3 blocks from old one, very large and two stories. Has some little sitting areas outside with chairs to sit and rest and read if you want, and a lot of features. I would get the creeps walking on the second floor. The floor creaks when people are walking across it. Reminds me of the old Victorian house that (we can take tours of it) is more than a century old not far away, the upstairs floors are creaky too. Now that library has been closed down for over 2 years due to black mold. They are having a hard time trying to get it removed and it cost a lot of money to do it. I think they are pursuing legal actions against the contractor. The library was open less than 3 years when they closed it down and it’s still closed. 😡 We are paying taxes to pay for it and can’t even use it.

I haven't been to a library in years. I used to love them as a kid, I have Kindle but I also love collecting books to read at home. I have three book cases full of my favourites and the thought of going to and from a library doesn't appeal to me any more.
ElwoodBlues · M
Our library allows us to borrow electronic books to read on the Kindle or other e-reader. I think I borrow around 40 books/year this way. All without leaving our home!
robbie2499 · 61-69, F
@ElwoodBlues I do the same
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
You're not the only one.
I still go to the one in my hometown.
There, I use the computers, socialize with friends, and if I'm in the mood for it, I check out books and sometimes movies.

I use the public library quite regularly. I usually have at least one book checked out, and I often check out DVD's for my wife and me to watch together.
Piper · 61-69, F
Yes. When I go to the public library in my town to return and check out books, there are most always other people there doing the same. There are also always people there using the other resources offered, like using the library's computers or wi-fi.

I love supporting my local library! I’m there at least 1-2 a week
SomeIrishPerson · 31-35, M
I don't at the moment. I usually just buy books. There's apparently a magnificent library at the college I'll be attending soon, and I imagine I will make use of it
SomeMichGuy · M
@SomeIrishPerson Wow! Neat.
Bri89 · 36-40, M
I would like to use my local library, but it takes two buses to get there, and sometimes I don't have that sort of energy.
Thrust · 56-60, M
I love libraries. Better environment to concentrate. My mom was a librarian
Lopaka55 · 61-69, M
Only place I can check out a DVD or BluRay and not have to fork out the purchase price.
And books and references too. I need to go back soon. :>

Not very much, especially after getting the Libby app which allows me to borrow my library’s ebooks.
RosaMarie · 46-50, F
@OlderSometimesWiser That's still using the library resource. I'd say that counts.
robbie2499 · 61-69, F
@OlderSometimesWiser I still enjoy the whole process of going into a physical building and chatting with the staff etc. Plus, I love seeing so many books just waiting to be perused.
@robbie2499 Oh definitely, I can understand the whole ritual of it and enjoying the actual books. I just got used to reading the ebooks on my iPad a lot easier than I thought I would.
Roundandroundwego · 61-69
Free wifi, free water, sometimes my homeless friends need a warm place to go.
Coralmist · 41-45, F
I do, often ! I get dvds , books and mags too
RosaMarie · 46-50, F
I always have two to four digital audio books on Libby, so yes.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
Mine is fantastic. Why buy a book when i can borrow it?
robbie2499 · 61-69, F
@samueltyler2 Exactly.
Magicianzini · M
Whenever I go, there are plenty of people there, so indeed, yes.
Anime1 · 31-35, M
I go to the libiary the old fashion way and check out books
robbie2499 · 61-69, F
@Anime1 Me too.
Considering my kindle can hold most of the contents of a library, I don't. Haven't been to one in too many years to remember.
Still love them…
robbie2499 · 61-69, F
@Unefilletrescurieuse Me too and I always will.
val70 · 51-55
I hope so. I still work in one
TurtlePink · 51-55, M
They have activities in ours all the time.
wonkywinky · 51-55, M
no im always in there
SomeMichGuy · M
I do at times and I have an extensive one
royalblue1193 · 31-35, M
Shh this is a library
FreestyleArt · 36-40, M
I'll probably go to the library since the Internet is almost dead. Waiting for the final blow from big tech.
Chiefjustice · 46-50, M
No, people, kids specially still do!
