I oppose the death penalty, also.
marrowengine · 36-40, F
Neither am I. Too many innocent people on death row too, particularly back in the days of slavery. Also the law isn't perfect and can be wrong. Coerced confessions exist and false memories exist too, you can convince a person they did the crime. It seems weird like you'd know if you committed a crime or not but the mind can be toyed with and it is possible to create false memories in someone.

@marrowengine the ones left holding the bag are always the dimmest .
Rokan · 36-40, M
@marrowengine those are real variables but even assuming if we knew 100% of someones guilt for whatever it was for how bad it was i still wouldnt kill them.
marrowengine · 36-40, F
@Rokan Oh yeah even without those variables it's still wrong.
Longpatrol · 31-35, M
I come from Singapore. We still have one of the lowest rates of drug usage relative to population due to the death penalty.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@Longpatrol you also have a shit ton of people who want to live there bc it’s safe and clean. Funny how that works.
Rokan · 36-40, M
@AthrillatheHunt traffickers are far more dangerous but i still wouldnt kill them definitely life in prison.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@Rokan I’m against death penalty too
Ducky · 31-35, F
Neither am I. If you’re a logical individual, (which you seem to be to me, for whatever it’s worth) then your reasonings must be a lot more sound than those who do support it.
Rokan · 36-40, M
@Ducky Do you think maybe it stems from having a low emotional intelligence? I see all the time with stand your ground laws that people can shoot and kill others for being in fear of their safety without having to retreat, but that seems illogical to me. It seems if someone is unwilling to retreat to safety it isn't fear motivated to shoot but anger motivated.
Ducky · 31-35, F
@Rokan It’s a very slippery slope that would require a whole different post to discuss adequately. But to give my short answer on the topic: on one hand, I say there is some solid validity to stand your ground laws, but it’s all highly situational. There are situations where one should absolutely stand their ground and shoot to kill if it’s truly kill or be killed. But there are also situations where simply removing themselves from the situation when given the opportunity is the best course of action.
Rokan · 36-40, M
@Ducky I guess i am thinking of scenarios like where someone is stealing something left out on the front lawn and the person turns around and starts running and they get shot or if like there is an argument that is about to lead to a physical fight and someone draws a weapon which is enough to get the other to retreat and fires in their back etc...
I do believe in self defense 100% I am not a true pacifist in any regard, but there has been a lot of situations I have seen on the news that seemed like murder to me not I had no way to retreat.

I’m against it too
GeistInTheMachine · 31-35, M
I am against it unless they do it in public and allow people to bet on it.
GeistInTheMachine · 31-35, M
@Rokan A roulette wheel with different methods of execution, of course.
Rokan · 36-40, M
@GeistInTheMachine of course? Has this ever been done before oitside of maybe a movie?
GeistInTheMachine · 31-35, M
@Rokan Not yet!
