Its taken me 4-5 months to lose 20lbs at 40 years old and I'm very happy with that.

@MartinTheFirst yup I'm an ol lady 😂
@Ferric67 I agree. I had done super fast weight loss in the past and ended up burnt out. I couldn't sustain it. After the cancer thing I had put on about 20lbs.
This time I've been very diligent and patient and it's been great. Slow progress and lasting adjustments have been very sustainable.

@MartinTheFirst I'm not ashamed of my age! I love this

The hardest part is actually doing it and not talking about it. It is far easier to sit on your butt eating, than it is to workout and lose weight.
Take something you like, a favourite show maybe, add a TV in front of your Elliptical and enjoy the show while you work out. Should take away some of the pain.

@JamesBugman I bought an elliptical for the very same reason. Good call. Diet and exercise.
I dropped 40lbs over three years ago and have kept it off.
Start good habits. The rewards of how you look and feel will keep you going.

Very easy, particularly for a man. Cut carbs and sugar. Exercise daily for a half hour. No snacking. For meals, focus on protein, serving size not to exceed 1/2 lb twice daily. Vegetables are ok. Skip fruit initially.
That’s ten lbs the easy way, likely more if you’re really overweight.

I cut out extra sugar (candy, etc), extra carbs, did a bit more exercise (walking, dancing). I stopped snacking, unless it was fruit. Stopped drinking.
10 pounds dropped right off in about a month, a bit less.

a pound of fat is about 5000 calories, if the month is 30 days long, thats ~1700 calories per day to be in deficit (either eating less or doing more, some combination of the two); a recommended diet is ~2000-2500 calories per day. in short, without some sort of outside the normal influence, it's quite to extremely hard.

@dirge I'm trying to go have a 1,200 deficit of calories.
@RisingMorningStar7 have you established what your caloric needs to maintain your current weight are?

It depends on your will power and how thick you are to begin with.

Depends on your level of dedication. Its mostly about diet. Let me tell you, if you like any form of junk food, its hard as hell.
Not hard. Keeping it off is hard.
