Why do people put carpets inside kitchens and bathrooms?

Seems like the worst place, easy to get a carpet to stink up because water or even food exposure

I don’t know. I rented a little rent house after I got divorced. The landlords (3 brothers) had put carpeting in the kitchen and bathroom. One of them owned a carpet-laying business and got the carpet at a discount because it was a smaller pieces from the rolls. He also put turf on the front porch. The carpeting felt good in the bathroom but I cannot imagine what went through his mind to carpet the kitchen unless it was because his mother had been elderly and he didn’t want her to slip and fall. I always took my shoes off at the door and I rented a machine to clean the carpeting after moving in. If I had my way every room would have had tile on it and I could mop it once a week.

It would be terrible to have that stuff there. Carpets are already very difficult to clean in less problematic areas, let alone where there's constant food and water exposure

@BitterSweetPotato I had to rip up wall to wall carpet before and even carpet in less dirty areas is absolutely filthy underneath. All the dirt and dust that escapes being vacuumed ends up under the carpet and you can't do anything until you want to remove it all

@deadgerbil I used to live in carpeted apartments my entire life (my family always put carpets ) and I never realised that it was okay to live without them because I was just too used to having the floor carpeted inside the house.. only now that I am living on my own I realize that it is much easier to keep the house clean without it, and that floor looks much more elegant too.

@deadgerbil I used to shampoo my carpet every week, and it was absolutely brown filthy water every time; they don't really get clean in my opinion.

It’s terrible! I had a rental that I lived in for 5 years that has a cream coloured carpet throughout, including the kitchen. 🤦🏻‍♀️
BitterSweetPotato · 31-35, F
@Jeephikelove OMG and light coloured!! It probably became dark brown or something 🥔🥴

@BitterSweetPotato I actually kept it relatively clean and one shampoo job when I moved out and it looked almost new.

@BitterSweetPotato The stupiest idea ever.

Kitchens and bathrooms are the worst places for carpet. Tile or good quality vinyl floors for me. Throw rugs and socks in the winter.
First thing I did here was rip the carpeting up on the bathroom. Can't even begin to explain how gross it was underneath
All our floors are hardwood. Throughout or whole house. My Mum hated carpet.

I agree, its terrible. I prefer no carpets at all, generally, I'll put down rugs if it gets cold
BitterSweetPotato · 31-35, F
@firefall but it is indoors, would it get THAT cold?
firefall · 61-69, M
@BitterSweetPotato not in Florida for sure, but I can imagine it might be so in Canada. Certainly it was needed in London
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
Ya I had an apartment with a rug in the bathroom and there was a mushroom growing in the corner once. Bad idea.
BitterSweetPotato · 31-35, F
@JimboSaturn it is disgusting indeed

Don't have a carpet in the kitchen......but in the bathroom there is one.

Who would ever even think of doing something so evil? I had to take the little carpet thingy off the toilet lid even! Though that was mostly because my cat would lay on it all the time.

To look fancy. We have couple of carpets one for dining room and one for the living room
