Why do people put carpets inside kitchens and bathrooms?

Seems like the worst place, easy to get a carpet to stink up because water or even food exposure

It would be terrible to have that stuff there. Carpets are already very difficult to clean in less problematic areas, let alone where there's constant food and water exposure

@deadgerbil Exactly!! I am so surprised I see people putting them there!! I have difficulty believing that they are keeping them clean!

@BittersweetPotato I had to rip up wall to wall carpet before and even carpet in less dirty areas is absolutely filthy underneath. All the dirt and dust that escapes being vacuumed ends up under the carpet and you can't do anything until you want to remove it all

@deadgerbil I used to live in carpeted apartments my entire life (my family always put carpets ) and I never realised that it was okay to live without them because I was just too used to having the floor carpeted inside the house.. only now that I am living on my own I realize that it is much easier to keep the house clean without it, and that floor looks much more elegant too.

@deadgerbil I used to shampoo my carpet every week, and it was absolutely brown filthy water every time; they don't really get clean in my opinion.
