Why do people put carpets inside kitchens and bathrooms?

Seems like the worst place, easy to get a carpet to stink up because water or even food exposure

I agree, its terrible. I prefer no carpets at all, generally, I'll put down rugs if it gets cold

@BittersweetPotato not in Florida for sure, but I can imagine it might be so in Canada. Certainly it was needed in London
