My son lives here and he pays me for room and food. It helps me financially and he couldn't afford rent around here with his wages. It works for us.

My son wanted his own place the minute he graduated. I think it's great because it gives him his own independence. He has his own freedom now and is highly motivated and very smart. At the same time, he knows that he can always count on me if he needs help or guidance with anything.

I didn't kick either of my kids out. I don't understand parents who do this. You had the kids, and now that they are legal adults you're just going to ignore the fact they are your kids? Some parents have zero love.
Now, if my kids were stagnating and having trouble finding their way in the world, i still wouldn't kick them out, but would certainly be haiving long talks about where they aren't going and help them make a plan to where they want to be. Currently doing this with my son.

Very hypothetical for me as I've no children but I guess, my sister for example, if she asked me to stay with me ugh I'd say yes for a while but I'm not sure I'd like to have it as a long term arrangement. A while I mean, we could do it for a year or two, not for life.

Both of our adult children have lived with us for short periods for various reasons. If they had needed to stay longer, they were welcome. They did help with food expenses.

They're all welcome to stay as long as they want to. My elder son still lives at home and pays rent.

My parents did this to me and I wasn’t a fan. So I’m not doing that to my kids.
But the bankrolling stops (mostly) after college or when they get married.
However, ask me again when they reach those stages.
