Have you ever said no to donating?

cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
Oh yeah. I never donate to anything a store is collecting money for. Walmart tried to get us to donate to something at least once a week. I figured that they would collect the money and then the corporation would give it to charities and get a tax write off for it. They sure knew how to hire people that qualified for a lot of things that would give them tax credits, and that was part of what was wrong with the stores. Hiring people who weren’t qualified to do even a cart-pushing job, there were several there that were let go after having to deal with them for over a year. Went to Ross on Sunday and they were asking customers if they wanted to donate to a children’s charity and every time someone donated even a dollar they’d get on the loudspeaker and announce it and yell “Woo-Hoo!” That got old in a hurry listening to it while shopping.

Yes. I say "no" to all requests on the phone, even requests from charities that I will eventually support.
HumanEarth · 56-60, F
No to corporations yes to individuals

Corporations are out for themselves

Individuals really need the help and they are not doing it for marketing.

@HumanEarth There are charity watch organizations that rate charities, you can even find some where you can search by state or city. Most of these charities have a high overhead with the organizers and top people filling their own pockets before any of the money goes to the ones that they are supposed to be helping. It’s pretty rare to find charities that have a small overhead.

Yes. There are a couple of charities I prefer not donating to.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Musicman I’ve been getting a call each and every month for years from a scam outfit based in Texas. They are either calling for injured law enforcement officers or disabled Veterans or something like that. Same man calls here every time, he has a unique deep voice. I asked him a couple years ago exactly how much of the donations go to the Veteran’s. He started stammering and saying “Uh, well it’s like this. We have to pay for our overheard before we use the money to benefit the Veteran’s” I asked him exactly how much was their overhead. He says “91% of donations. I told him “SHAME ON YOU…you only give 9% to the Veterans and use them to raise money”. He says “I’m sorry” and hung up. But he’s not sorry enough to stop calling people here.

@cherokeepatti I have seen charities with as little as 2% going to the actual charity. As for any of these charities I don't see why any of their executive staff needs million dollar salaries with million dollar bonuses.

Yes...,I'll tell them, where were they when I needed help, so my answer is "no".

About 90 percent of the time. I’d rather give ten dollars to a meth head as opposed to giving to organized “charities”.

Said I already gave this year to somebody else and he got sooo rude!
pdockal · 56-60, M
Almost always as too many charities pay themselves way too much and most of the money doesn't go to where is intended
I donate my time to my community which is more then most
Yes. The military can get their own Christmas toys for their own future killers.
Adrift · 61-69, F
@Roundandroundwego I swear, some of these supposed tolerant types remind me of a shaky, neurotic little dog that just snaps and bites at everyone.
@Adrift tolerate paid killing as a profession?
Adrift · 61-69, F

Charities are scams meant to line their own pockets.
