I was 21 and was too busy working, studying and looking after Grandma to worry about the future.

I was 22 that year, I had just graduated college. My life seemed very good, I had no anxiety and felt like life had goodness ahead of me. I was rather wrong. :( As far as technology, I had not really thought about what might be in 20 years, but as far as phones, I never would have thought they would be so much more than the Flip phone back then!!!
@Coralmist Aww, I understand life has been tough on you since and trauma hits after sometimes. Then you either fall apart or you try to pick up the pieces as you can. Your kindness shines through in almost everything you write. I really do wish for you, that those hurts, anxiety just become only hurdles for you at some point, that you know you have grown, and others do see what you give.

That other world before, I miss it at times.... Social media is not always healthy and sadly sometimes now, how people only make connection. Sometimes it becomes if I knew what I did then

In all honesty... No.

I understand that a whole lot can happen in a twenty year span.

But back in 2004, I was too preoccupied with my own personal affairs to even think about what 2024 would be like.

At that time, I was 17 and going through a tumultuous period in my life.

In summary, I was despondent over not being legally able to drive a car, I ended up in classes I didn't want to end up in, I was on the verge of having a falling out with a few friends of mine and after one altercation with a student who insulted me, I was suspended for two days and because of all that, I nearly took my own life when I got home.

This saturday will have marked in my life, 20 years since the day of that altercation, suspension and suicide attempt.(which was a Tuesday back in 2004)

All in all, 2004 was my personal Hell.
No,I didn't think much about the development from industrial point of view but my thought was more towards the medical side.Around late 2003-early 2004(couldn't remember when exactly),there was this acquaintance of me who died of cancer. It made me wonder will it be curable 20 years from now?I even used to think will diseases like HIV-AIDS/Rabies be curable 20 years from now?
Alas!we never made any progress in the past 20 years in medical aspect except here and there.

I was 17 and 18. Yes I thought by 2024 would be far more advanced than it is. 2004 and 2024 is not much different technology wise except for smart phones, streaming media services and electric cars.

27 I didn't think about it but thought we'd have flying cars by now 🤔 but it's better because people can't even handle cars on the ground lol 🤣
I would have been 7 (8 that December). No tbh I thought we would have flying cars.
shaneC8181 · 41-45, M
@MorbidCynic Yep flying cars was always something a lot of people thought would happen even in the 00s, before the 00s
If you think about it Cars only make contact with the ground at 4 spots. They had 20 years to remove the spots. WTF
Wizardry · 46-50, M
27 and no didn’t think. There would be lots of new technology.

I thought we'd be a bit further along in self driving cars and home computing. I sort of expected the smart phone take off. But I didn't expect PC improvements to slow down as far as noticeable performance increase quite so much. I feel like the last twenty years was full of incremental improvements on things we already had and not quite as innovative as before.

I was not expecting the arrival of AI, but it's still early so difficult to tell where it's ultimately going to go. AI could be the exception to the lack of new things. It could either fizzle out or become the basis for world altering change the way the internet was.
