Mandatory chemical castration for certain crimes (Meloni is only proposing voluntary castration) has been legal in Poland since 2010. There is no evidence that it has any effect on recidivism and most doctors refuse to administer the drug as it is medically unethical.
It would be nice if conservative extremists could focus on issues that would really benefit children (education, regulation of social media, etc) rather than lurid punishments.

@pdockal I am well aware. I visit my relatives there every 12 months or so. Poland is recovering from 18 years of mismanagement and authoritarian government by various right-wing and populist parties.
I am using those systems as examples because no others exist 🤷♀ Call me old fashioned, but I think policy decisions shoukd be made on the basis of empirical evidence rather than utopian schemes.

@SunshineGirl Conservatives are all about vibes and feelings not facts. If harsh punishment had any effect on crime, violent crime would have been eradicated by the middle ages.
But violent revenge feels good. It doesn't matter if it works to Conservatives.
There is also the magical thinking that state violence will result in positive change because it was decided arbitrarily that state violence is inherently good.

I see you hearting my posts about castrating people. I actually don't think the state should have the right to mutilate anyone's genitals. I was pointing out, where does it stop? How about the mentally handicapped? The state has often moved to castrating the disabled when it starts dabbling in having the right to castrate social undesirables. And this is coming from someone who was groomed and sexually assaulted as a child.

Also take into consideration the absolute horror stories of people with severe personality disorders who recreationally make false rape accusations against their family members and partners. Castration for those, too? Having a false accusation, even if proven wrong can seriously damage the life of the falsely accused.

@pdockal There is very little legislation in place to prosecute those who make false allegations and those who engage in BPD/NPD abuse, however. The latter even get special protections that discourage victims from speaking out against the abuse.
How about this.There is so much evil and hate and suffering in the world, so how about we just nuke all of humanity? If we want to go down the route of violence to alleviate that suffering.
