Hands up who knows why Tesla's European sales have crashed

I think that the reaction of people boycotting Tesla, equating the product with the chief executive of the company, is disturbing and really no better than the people being protested against.

Musk is one man, but Tesla employs many thousands of people in a number of countries around the world. A boycott of Tesla will have zero effect on Musk's behaviour. The only people who might suffer are those who make the vehicles.

Mind you, I do appreciate the joke.

@Kypro Is someone cutting it? Does this have something to do with boycotting Tesla?
Kypro · 51-55, M
@Kypro the govt adds to it and administers at retirement
Kypro · 51-55, M
@ninalanyon yes musk is trying to cut many things which are already approved
TheShanachie · 61-69, M
There are obvious declines due to musk’s more recent behavior. However, the Tesla products don’t stack up well based on quality and price to the competition and I suspect this has been creeping up on them. Personally if I was in the market for a vehicle I’d never consider Tesla based on track record and how ugly the vehicles are even if musk was politically neutral.
@Justafantasy If you're in the market for a true hybrid, you might take a look at Toyota's "power split device."** It's a piece of engineering genius that enables a more efficient Atkinson cycle combustion engine as well as a highly efficient continuously variable transmission. This is what allows Toyota hybrids to get such great MPG.

** Originally invented by TRW in the early 1970's, it had to await cheap and efficient DC to DC converters to become practical.
@ElwoodBlues not really in the market for anything currently. Sporty car if anything
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@Justafantasy If you mean the Taycan the it is significantly more expensive for the same performance.
Well I have one myself and tbh I won't buy another one precisely because I think Elon Musk is skin crawlingly weird. Same reason why I'd never fly Ryanair, because I can't stand Michael O'Leary.

@UBotMate Yes, sometimes these things are instinctive rather than a clear political statement . .

I guess they couldn't take all the heart he was giving out..

The problem for Tesla is its supply chain in Europe, with extra 25% TARRIFS on Europe .
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@Khenpal1 The tariff is no different from this time last year. So why have sales dropped by 47%?

@jshm2 References? Mine has never failed the periodic test. It's never even had a remark let alone a failure. Manufactured in 2015, tested in 2019, 2021, and 2023.

@Heartlander In the UK and other European countries there is quite a wide range of options available in the EV market, some considerably cheaper than a Tesla.
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
He should have just copied and electrified the VW bug. Starship is just an enlarged knockoff of the V2. Couldn't get that right either.
jackson55 · M
Not just Tesla, electric cars in general.
jackson55 · M
@TheShanachie That too. But I think everyone that wanted an electric car has one. Electric car sales, all brands, have definitely cooled off.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@jackson55 Markets which are not hostile to China have a good choice of affordable products.
jackson55 · M
@SunshineGirl True. But they still don’t sell in numbers. There are lots full of electric cars rotting away in china.
wildbill83 · 41-45, M
They're still hung up on their Hitlermobiles? 🤔

because people hate the Romans.
GerOttman · 61-69, M
@alicewhite I thought it was the Goths...
@GerOttman they all look the same right? sure thier camp for that:)
Did you know about the new lack of spending power among the EU population?
Nothing but war is good enough for your whites.
isthisafakeprofile · 61-69, M
I see you’re a foreigner. If you want to make a difference please tell your to stop cashing US government checks.
isthisafakeprofile · 61-69, M
Of course not. @Kypro
Kypro · 51-55, M
@isthisafakeprofile it doesn’t matter to me if you are or not.
isthisafakeprofile · 61-69, M
Oh. I see. You asked to be snarky and now you claim not to care. In that ll not share your snark and withdraw my question. @Kypro
isthisafakeprofile · 61-69, M
You do know no one agrees with you right?
@LeopoldBloom having heard about the reliability issues and the lack of QC it very well could be
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@isthisafakeprofile you could catch me in that IED bomb by Musk, who's batteries are always exploding.

I'd rather ride in a car with suicide doors.

One just exploded last week here.

Because low information dims (some may say you’re an example) think attacking Musk makes them “look good”.

@isthisafakeprofile I don't do this for popularity, I can assure you.
