Question: Why don’t more Republicans push toward healthcare?

As all of you know, I consider myself to be a progressive—or a “deform” Republican. I believe in healthcare for many different reasons, but my main reasoning is this: I think healthcare can play an important role in ending human trafficking. By dedicating a significant portion of it to helping victims who’ve been trafficked, we could give them access to free human services and therapy.

I’m just kind of curious—Republicans, or even conservatives (though I’m not a conservative, I am a Republican)—why don’t more of you talk about this?

For what it’s worth, this is my analysis as a progressive Democrat.

Republicans are currently in a very weak (unpopular, it’s a vulnerable issue for them) spot on healthcare. They can’t support Romneycare because President Obama stole it and made it Obamacare, and they can’t support anything done by a black Democratic President. So they have to come up with a healthcare plan that’s more conservative than Romneycare/Obamacare, but the problem is nothing more conservative than that works. They’re generally kind of opposed to Medicaid because they believe that government can’t help people, especially not “lazy” poor people. And that’s all the analysis I have time for just now.

What kind of healthcare do you imagine? I'm certainly not a fan of American style but when the Canadian system fails Canadians have been known to go to the US for treatment.

@1930sfan Yeah I don't quite get your connection between human trafficking and healthcare. Most mental health care is worse than the disease.
1930sfan · 26-30, M
@hippyjoe1955 sorry for my spelling I do have autism and it shows sometimes what I'm trying to say is I would use Healthcare to try to end human trafficking
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@1930sfan OK I can agree with ending human trafficking. Not sure how that can be done so long as people want to enslave others they will.

nothing stopping you from paying for someone else's heathcare out of your pocket, so why aren't you?

why should it be the conservatives burden to pay for "free stuff" for everyone else?

I bet if we started garnishing wages of liberals and/or so called "progressives" (let's say 25-30% of their gross income) to fund this "free healthcare", they'd probably quit gaslighting conservatives over it... 🤔

I look forward to reading the responses you receive. Your distinction between "Republican' and 'conservative' interests me.
@FreddieUK There actually used to be progressive Republicans, but the Tea Party (precursor to the MAGAs) ran them off.

Both sides are against anything that reduces the oppression.
There's no left to oppose them in politics.

Republicans are for billionaires and don't want healthcare for us.
1930sfan · 26-30, M
@SatanBurger I'm a Republican and I want Healthcare Teddy Roosevelt was a Republican and want a healthcare for all

@1930sfan But you're a very small minority in the modern Republican party. Mitt Romney wasn't as progressive, but he did support an early version of the ACA, which brought down healthcare cost. However, the party has shifted so far Right, Romney is seen as an outsider now.
The GOP as it exists today is run by MAGAs, that’s why they’re racist, (otherwise they would’ve strengthened the ACA instead of branding it "Obamacare" and letting it die).

And it’s why they don’t care about women, children or affordable healthcare.

Referring to Republicans of the past who did care about this country is moot, because that’s just not who’s in charge of the party (or the country) now. 😔
It also would likely reduce the number of shootings. When a brand new AR 15 and a box of ammo is cheaper than therapy people are going to be incentivized to shoot their problems instead of going to therapy.

Obama came up with a bogus health plan and government screwed it up royally. Government needs to stay out of healthcare. No such thing as a free lunch. Look at social security. Its a ponzi scheme.
Nothings free. Get out of that mindset.

It’s not important to them as a political party..
AbstractWave · 61-69, M
@1930sfan they are not here and both were great men, your present GOP are not like them at all.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@1930sfan Sadly he will never give the Republicans credit for that.
@1930sfan The GOP platform has changed greatly since Abraham Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt were part of it. It simply doesn’t support anything not directed to the wealthy.
Musicman · 61-69, M
I honestly don't see the connection between healthcare and human trafficking.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@1930sfan Human trafficking is modern day slavery. That's why I didn't see a connection between it and healthcare.
1930sfan · 26-30, M
@Musicman no I think you're missing when I'm saying I'm staying at Healthcare could stop human trafficking
Musicman · 61-69, M
@1930sfan I firmly believe everyone has the right to their opinion. 😊

Conservatives believe that poor people are weak, and the weak deserve to die. But they don't have the balls to say that, so I assume you won't get any real answers. You might just get stuff like, THE NEW DEAL DESTROYED THE BLACK FAMILY! Which nobody actually believes.
