What's one thing that would convince you to change your political position?

Evidence that can hold up to scrutiny. The more you learn to listen to the other side, you start to realize that things are much more nuanced than partisans with opposing agendas like to make them out to be. I find time and time again that the truth is usually somewhere in the middle.

A lot of times political parties don't really represent my views at all, but force me to settle on things that are close enough or just good enough

I can't help but notice that while Americans discuss their political positions, the world is moving away from America. America has isolated itself from its' traditional allies, and trading partners, and bullied everyone, even their closest friends and allies.

But don't let that bother you, while you while you ponder your political position on any issues, or how you might vote next time..I don't think it will make any difference to you, or to anyone.

True.

True again.

My political position really depends on the current issues at hand. I will vote for whatever party that I think has the best ideas in actually solving the issues. But I'll never vote for an extreme left nor extreme right party.

It helps that I'm not American and here in the Netherlands we get more than just 2 choices.
Elessar · 31-35, M
@sree251 A new party can be spun up and attract protest votes

Looks like you folks are no different than we people in America. We have the same spread of political parties: Social democrats, right wing populism, green party, and conservatives.
Elessar · 31-35, M
@sree251 Social democrats and green party are non-viable in the USA. It's the exact same as if they didn't exist, as the choice will ultimately be between neoliberals and far-righters.

In Europe, social democrats and green parties can very well be part of governing coalitions, and have actual leverage on the other parties in the coalition by threatening to "pull the plug" and induce a govt. crisis if their demands aren't adequately met.
Elessar · 31-35, M
I roam in the left (social dem), center and even center-right (liberal) portions of the political spectrum all the time. Depending mostly on the issue.

I don't think there's anything that will make me go far-right (intended as: fascist or "libertarian", American style) or far-left (intended as: anarchist, marxist and such) if not at most on individual issues, but never enough to vote any such parties.

If all the countries dissolved and we recognized ourselves as humans from earth.

If we let go of the archaic hierarchical structure of giving all the power of millions of people to a single person, because humans are easily corrupted by power.

When we no longer use currency so theres no more classes of people but instead use our vast reasources and technology spread evenly across the world for everyone

When i turn on the news and see propaganda for the good of humanity rather than to slander the opposing party or indoctrinate the people for power or wealth.

When a committee of leaders are chosen for for thier knowledge and skill rather than vote for how well they can convince people with empty promises and slick words.
A change in the way I view people, humanity and the Earth.

How about changing the way you view anything?

I am an independent constitutional conservative. The chances of hell freezing over are pretty slim! 😉

A useful politician
hunkalove · 70-79, M
I would never ever vote Republican but after Biden and Kamala I'm ashamed to be a Democrat. I doubt I will ever waste my time voting again.
Adrift · 61-69, F
@hunkalove I agree, we all need better choices.
swirlie · 31-35
@hunkalove
If it's any consolation to you, the Republicans are thinking the same thing on their side of the fence.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
The whole world actually changing instead of a deadlock.

I have said often enough that life is change.

It's time the world take a clue from reality.

Or it will be destruction instead.

Those of you that believe you are in a safe haven, well ... you are not. If you are on this earth, you are not in a safe place.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
Direct, sustained, credible evidence that I need to consider changing them.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
A severe brain injury MIGHT do it, but I doubt it.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
This is interesting. Exactly the type of people I expected to say evidence would change their mind have done so, with the exception of one person. I never would have expected the Herman Munster guy to say evidence would change his mind.
swirlie · 31-35
@LordShadowfire
😁 Brilliant salesmanship you got going on there, young man!
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@swirlie I didn't put up with his nastiness, and responded with nastiness of my own that outnastied his nasty. By the end of it, he was calling me a troll, which was peak irony.
swirlie · 31-35
@LordShadowfire
Very good! At least you got him defending himself, which means he was trying to fight you off! 🤣
MasterLee · 56-60, M
Apparently death. Then the libs cast my vote without my knowledge to cheat.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
Persuasive and credible evidence.
lissah · 36-40, F
Lol not a damn thing
swirlie · 31-35
@lissah
Who did you vote for POTUS in the last Election?
Vin53 · M
Hell could freeze over.
swirlie · 31-35
@Vin53
Oh come on! It's not that big a deal to change your mind!
Vin53 · M
@swirlie Well I'd have to prefer racists over immigrants and I don't see that ever happening.
swirlie · 31-35
@Vin53
Sounds like you're pretty set in your ways! 😂

It won't even matter if we all accept this digital ID crapola!

Democrat party turns to being conservative and they all grow some brains then find another exactly like Trump to run for office when Trump can't.................Fat chance any of them will grow a brain however.
Realifecuckold · 61-69, M
@acpguy Why so angry? Things not going well for you? You seem to be lashing out a everyone.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
I'd have to see evidence that racism, homophobia, and unregulated greed (capitalism) are actually good for the country.

Does anybody want to place a bet on what the odds are of that happening?
Allelse · 36-40, M
A mix of dementia and too many hemmeroids.
