Are u for or against illegal immigration 🔐

Of course many of you are aware of the deportations going on here in the US right now.
I think most of us are against anything illegal.
But here's the problem. President Trump seems so eager to get certain demographics of people out of the US for his own personal reasons or agenda. But what about the people he pardoned
from January 6. Do you see the hypocrisy here. We are talking about a federal crime here . You cannot expect people to follow the law when you are breaking them yourself. What is your opinion on this mess. Answers please. 🙄

I am against illegal immigration I do not think these people should be rewarded for breaking the law nor do I think that they should be eligible for any kind of benefits in this country. Legal immigration however much different story if you come here wanting to adopt our customs assimilate into our nation and serve this country then I am 100% behind you

@KingofBones1

"....you come here wanting to adopt our customs assimilate into our nation and serve this country...."

Adopt our customs? Our nations customs come from numerous sources that originated in other countries.

Assimilate.....does that mean lose all sense of your personal heritage?

Serve this country.....our military are full of folks from different nations and cultures. Joining the armed forces has always been a hook to get immigrants (and the poor) a pass into the US, and if a 'good little soldier' we might let your family into the country too...sign here kid.

@JSul3 Here's the secret sir. Latinos for the most part know that the US is a better country than Mexico. But the truth is they kept getting caught up in culture wars. Some wanna be White and some wanna be Black. So they are constantly struggling with their identity. They feel unappreciated and unheard. So they felt like if they would align themselves with the Supremacist system then they would be seen as the model. minority. But little did they know they were just being used for a certain period of time. And were going to be discarded like yesterday's trash later on.
KingofBones1 · 46-50, M
@Zonuss that's right even that comic- Mencia asked the crowd one time how many it all love Mexico and everybody started whistling and shouting then when he said how many of y'all want to go back the room was dead quiet

I am for the Rule of Law and Due Process and The Constitution.

Entering the US illegally is a misdemeanor....not a felony. First time offense is a fine and possible jail time up to 6 months. Repeated offences can become a felony, with harsher penalties and jail time.

Those who enter illegally may also claim asylum. That means they are guaranteed to have their claim in a court of law, and a judge determine their fate.

Nobody supports having murderers and drug dealers and human traffickers into the country.....but even they must have due process. That is the law.

Sweeping up people off the streets who have been in the US for years, with no other criminal record is insane....especially by masked men.

If they have no other criminal record, they should be given a green card, and a path to citizenship.

The fact is, the vast majority of these people have integrated into neighborhoods and are working and paying taxes.

Illegal immigration is only a problem because of government policy. Not Trump. This is longstanding through many administrations. There has long been a tacit link between undocumented immigration and the cheap labor market, which has supplied seasonal and cheap labor and kept costs down, even providing a buffer to put downward pressure on legal wages..For this reason the relatively simple steps that could be employed to stop the undocumented hiring practices were never put in place. Just lip service paid. Now suddenly Trump has made these people who provided a needed service the enemy..Just to get the attention of the ignorant masses. And its going to rebound in the form of shortages and price increases for everyone.😷

@calicuz A complex, developed economy like Americas is a highwire juggling act performed in a thinderstorm at the best of times. And these are not the best of times.. Trumps ham fisted bully boy act has failed on the world stage so badly that a global recession is now almost inevitable. He just spent a month and made several concessions to get China to agree to what they already agreed to. Just so he gets the same headline twice.😷
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@calicuz I got your point. But watching such a terrible outcome for everyone concerned is depressing.. No one wins out of this..But it all started with union busting cheap labour..😷
Zonuss · 46-50, M
@whowasthatmaskedman We are not blaming Trump for illegal immigration itself. We are blaming him for the process and the propaganda behind it. ☺
Looking on from Canada, American immigration policy has always seemed weird and contradictory to me. Aside from the limited number of legal immigration options, the message seems to be: We will try to keep you out, and make it as dangerous as possible for you to get in. But if you manage to get in, we will employ you, any kids you have in the USA will be citizens, and now and then there will be an amnesty for you as well. I don't see any consistency here unless the basic theory is kind of Darwinian -- those who make it into the USA without dying, must be strong enough to stay and become part of the country.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@ThePatientAnarchist There is more method in the madness. Undocumented migrants create a secondary "black" economy,which serves to keep wages low in the seasonal and manual labor markets and allows low standard rentals at nice profits to slum lords in some big cities. They also provide a client pool for unscrupulous businesses of many types as they deal in cash and cant really make a complaint to the authorities if unfairly treated. The government could easily stop all this, with ID checks for every employee and similar checks for every rental agreement enforced.. But they dont..😷
@whowasthatmaskedman that's a convincing analysis, thank you.
Zonuss · 46-50, M
@ThePatientAnarchist Cheap labor workers.
Consumerism migrants. Buffer class minority group. Fighting for model minority status. Business as usual in the USA.

Following his pardoning of the January 6 rioters, Trump cannot make any pronouncement on the rule of law without being guilty of clear hypocrisy.

For most of us, following laws is a given and a public virtue in itself. However, when authoritarian or anti-democratic methods are used to enforce those laws, or the economic and social damage outweigh the public utility of a particular piece of legislation, then it is moral to consider breaking them.

And of course the freedom for individuals to disagree and protest goes without saying in a just society.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@sunsporter1649 They of course surrendered that freedom the moment they began to destroy public property and assault public servants.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
Zonuss · 46-50, M
@sunsporter1649 I hope we will avoid conflict with Iran.
faery · 31-35, F
I'm for immigration reform, which no president on either side of the aisle has ever advocated.
calicuz · 56-60, M
@faery

Define "reform," and let's discuss.

I agree with the Founders that rights are God given, so anyone who enters the US is covered under those rights as stated in The US Constitution, including due process and a fair and speedy trial.
faery · 31-35, F
@calicuz I agree with the Founders as well. We need reform to protect migrant workers with no criminal record here or from where they came. Our economy depends on them and they depend on us.
Also notable is 5 of the Jan 6th rioters are now suing the federal government for 100 million dollars. So not only was it ok for them to break the law but they may also get rich on taxpayer money from it.
MethDozer · M
How can I be mad at someone for answering a help wanted sign that nobody here wanted and puts food in our plates and roofs over our heads?

@MethDozer You can't. But the law is the law. And who's to say that some Americans will not take these jobs in this economy.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
What Trump is doing is not even approved by Congress. So what he is doing with executive orders IS ILLEGAL!

It just happens he appointed court members that refused to acknowledge the illegality of such executive orders.

We are going on six months now on these insane executive orders without congressional approval!

He has done nothing but demands from the dictator that he is.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@rocknroll Newsom has no such immunity. Why he has made this a Court case!

And it's being put on hold because of Trump's judicial appointment.
@DeWayfarer trump foes
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@rocknroll Trump's appointees put a hold on Newsom law sue! Until next week. That works for Trump just perfectly. He will have deported all the innocent immigrants!
calicuz · 56-60, M
Exactly, but this what to expect when a convicted criminal is voted into office........... unlawfulness.
Zonuss · 46-50, M
@calicuz Agreed. Its going to be interesting to see what these so called Right Wingers say about this. ☺
Punxi · F
Very very very few of " us"...are natives. 🤷
Zonuss · 46-50, M
@Punxi And your point is.....

@JonUK41 No. Because that's discrimination. If Obama only allowed Black people to come to the US only...you wouldn't like that very much. Don't try and sell me a lie because Im not buying it from you.
Hopelandia · M
@JonUK41 No. That's discrimination. It seems, worryingly, as though you wouldn't mind too much if he did.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@JonUK41 No, discrimination on the basis of colour is immoral. It is also illegal under US law, to return to the subject of the original post . .

@faery We will begin with this one.
