Jasmine Crockett Claims Entering America Illegally is ‘Not a Crime’

Democrat firebrand Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) has once again sparked controversy after incorrectly stating on MSNBC that entering the United States illegally is not a crime, despite federal law clearly defining it as a criminal offense.

During an appearance on MSNBC with host Katie Phang, Crockett made the disputed claim, stating, “It is not a criminal violation to enter the country illegally… it’s not a crime.”

She further suggested that Republican officials want local law enforcement to “round up people when they could be looking out for the murderers and the sex abusers.”

Crockett also directed criticism at President Donald Trump, saying, “Don’t give me this fake outrage about criminals roaming our streets when you guys stand ten toes down for the biggest criminal we have ever seen go into the White House.”

Under federal law, unauthorized entry into the United States is indeed classified as a criminal offense because it is punishable by imprisonment.

Individuals who enter the country unlawfully can face both criminal and civil penalties under current immigration laws.

Resist the Mainstream reported that Crockett issued a scathing rebuke against Trump last week, claiming he is an “enemy” of the U.S. “As far as I am concerned, he is an enemy to the United States,” she said during an interview with MSNBC.

“He swore an oath just like the rest of us, but right now, when you are literally putting us at risk because you want to convince your followers that you should be a dictator too, that you should never leave the White House? Because you don’t believe that elections should take place? I don’t really understand what is going on, and I don’t know what it’s going to take to get people to wake up,” she claimed.

Actually, showing up at a border checkpoint and requesting asylum is NOT a crime. It is specifically allowed by the Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA) of 1986, signed into law by Ronald Reagan, a great advocate of immigration.

I agree that the 1986 IRCA is obsolete; we've needed to overhaul our immigration laws for over 20 years. It takes an act of Congress; will this Congress do anything??

@ElwoodBlues entering illegally is legal . That’s what she is stating . She is not saying anything about legal entry.
@specman Nope. She is mis-labeling asylum seekers as illegal entrants. Showing up at a border checkpoint and requesting asylum is NOT a crime. And the would-be immigrants know that. Did you ever wonder why tRump didn't campaign on finishing his "big beautiful wall"??

It's because the vast majority of border "encounters" happen at legal checkpoints with people legally requesting asylum.

@ElwoodBlues You mean like those 400,000 flown in directly from Argentina and distributed across the country?

@sunsporter1649 Here's an example of a post-hoc fallacy. Since Donald tRump took office, over 400,000 Americans have died. Are those deaths BECAUSE OF tRump's election?? Answering yes is the post-hoc fallacy.

I repeat, there is NO medical connection made between those deaths and that vaccine. It's a pure post-hoc fallacy.

I repeat: a handful of people in the US did die due to the vaccine, but weigh that against over ONE MILLION lives saved by the vaccine, and the public health implications are clear. Even to an idiot, even to a moron, public health benefits of the vaccine are clear.

@ElwoodBlues Gee, so I am wrong to agree with you that it is just a coincidence, eh?

Honestly it doesn't make sense for it to be a crime since undocumented people run from countries in times of war or have to sometimes due to persecution reasons. So in general making that a crime would be nonsensical. That's probably why it wasn't labeled as a crime, we do project ourselves as the American dream after all.

“round up people when they could be looking out for the murderers and the sex abusers.”

Yes exactly. Instead of working on infrastructure, child care, good health care you decide it's a good idea to waste trillions of dollars going after undocumented people.

Furthermore, if you just made those people legal within reason with the exclusion of violent crimes, you could probably strengthen America's workforce and relations with our citizens. As they could work and pay taxes like American citizens.

This is true about pedos too. The catholic church many years ago had as many as 200 pedos in their organization and this was five years ago so the number has probably grown

She has a point 💯
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@sunsporter1649 The U.S. already has background checks for immigrants applying for legal status, so we could apply similar vetting to those already here. People with serious criminal records—especially violent crimes or repeat offenses—could be flagged for deportation, while the rest could be given a pathway to legal status. This would allow law enforcement to focus on actual threats rather than chasing down people who are just trying to work and live.

Biometric data, past arrests, and cooperation with other countrie's records could help in screening.

@SatanBurger As opposed to just opening the door for every child trafficer, drug runner, and murderer that the previous administration stuffed in the country
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@sunsporter1649 I addressed that in my first comment towards you. It takes decades to get into America due to how our laws are set up. So fixing the issues of our immigration system along with making undocumented people here legal while deporting repeat offenders for serious violations would take care of major issues.

The numbers say something very very different, sunstroke.

Here in the table are US death numbers for the top ten causes of death for six years ending in 2020. Notice how there are 20% more deaths in 2020 than the average of the previous five years? Doing the math, that's 500,000 excess deaths in 2020.

Notice how, in 2020, 345,000 of those 500,000 excess deaths are classified as Covid? Notice how almost all causes of death rose in 2020, including cancer & heart disease?
https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2778234

If there's any validity to the claim that lots of deaths have been mis-classified as Covid, why did almost all causes of death increase in 2020? Wouldn't mis-classification produce a reduction in those other causes? The evidence says mis-classification is a red herring.

@ElwoodBlues Yup, shoving kung flu infected folks into eldery care facitlities had nothing to do with it, right?

Good to know you are admitting your fallacy.

Yup, shoving kung flu infected folks into eldery care facitlities had nothing to do with it, right?
Is that what they did in Florida? Because Florida ended up with a higher per capita Covid death rate than New York.

@ElwoodBlues President Joe Biden tested positive for COVID today, the White House announced. The positive test comes several months after Biden received his second booster shot in March. This would mean Biden has had four vaccine doses and still tested positive for COVID.

“This morning, President Biden tested positive for COVID. He is fully vaccinated and twice boosted and experiencing very mild symptoms,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre wrote in a statement. “He has begun taking Paxlovid.”

Biden’s positive test comes exactly one year to the day when he assured the American public that if you were vaccinated, you wouldn’t get the virus. He said this in Ohio during a town hall about the pandemic hosted by CNN’s Don Lemon.

“You’re not going to get COVID if you have these vaccinations,” Biden said on July 21, 2021. One year later, he did.
@sunsporter1649 The original vaccine provided complete protection to 95% of subjects who took it. After the virus started mutating, the vaccine still provided partial protection.

In 2021, the 75% of Americans fully vaccinated produced under 20% of the Covid deaths, while the 25% unvaccinated Americans produced over 80% of the Covid deaths.

In 2021, the 75% of Americans fully vaccinated produced under 31% of Covid cases; while the 25% unvaccinated Americans produced nearly 70% of Covid cases.

This means the US unvaccinated had a 5X higher chance of contracting Covid compared to the vaccinated per capita, and that overall the unvaccinated had about a 15X higher probability of Covid death per capita.

It is a civil offense, not a criminal offense.

Doing so to declare asylum is not even a civil offense.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@ViciDraco 8 U.S. Code § 1325 - Improper entry by alien

(a)Improper time or place; avoidance of examination or inspection; misrepresentation and concealment of facts
Any alien who (1) enters or attempts to enter the United States at any time or place other than as designated by immigration officers, or (2) eludes examination or inspection by immigration officers, or (3) attempts to enter or obtains entry to the United States by a willfully false or misleading representation or the willful concealment of a material fact, shall, for the first commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18 or imprisoned not more than 6 months, or both, and, for a subsequent commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18, or imprisoned not more than 2 years, or both.
ViciDraco · 41-45, M
@sunsporter1649 my mistake. Civil offense is being present in the US without authorization.

So if you come legally and then overstay you have committed a civil offense.

That was top of mind since the majority of people who are here without permission have entered legally and overstayed.
