@sree251 to Mae West's remains
the moon of course! What did you start this post off with?

LeopoldBloom · M
@LordT The Moon Treaty is irrelevant as no nation with the capacity to go there has signed it.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
A lot to unpack there. Starting with the homestead act not applying outside the boundaries of the US.. There are even questions about how much of Antarctica the US claims.. Then there is the bit about one natural satellite. There are indeed several. I have numbers from 5 to 14. All much small and with weird orbits, impossible with the naked eye.. Arguably much better suited as secret Chinese or other bases.. Finally, for Musk to get serious, he has to shoot for Mars. a truly independent world of his own. (Which you can expect him to plant his own flag on and declare himself Emperor.) So the moon is just a staging post..

Convivial · 26-30, F
I think by international treaty it's unclaimable..... Just liked the islands in the south China sea ....

sree251 · 41-45, M
@Convivial The islands in the South China Sea was claimed by China as part of a 2000 year-old imperial realm that predated the arrival of western colonialists from Britain and Europe. The earliest western maritime map of subject sea was drawn by the Spaniards in 1734, less than 300 years ago. International treaties are latter day agreements that dismiss not only China's claim but her very existence before arrival of the west. Today, no western gunboats - not even nuclear powered aircraft carrier strike groups of the US Navy - can impose on the Chinese. I think that not only the islands but the entire South China Sea is claimable by China.
As for the moon, the US is ahead in space technology. Trump needs to get Musk to focus on the moon. We need to colonize the lunar satellite, nuclear arm it, and claim it as a US military base. No landing - not even lunar orbiting - by aliens is allowed.

My mate Cornelius, he has an arrangement with a bloke that knew HG Wells.
Dolimyte · 41-45, M
I own the moon. I'm open to reasonable offers though.

I want the moon cheese
Leave it alone. Colonization (I doubt will happen) would interfere with my photography.

jehova · 31-35, M
The moon should be a cemetary. We need the land thats being used to store cadavers (rent free, btw) on earth for living and taxpaying citizens.
jehova · 31-35, M
@whowasthatmaskedman i believe we need the space for tax paying citizens recycling of dead bodies (decomposition) could be acheived on oil plateform cemetaries. Fun question!
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@jehova I think you are overlooking Soylent Green

jehova · 31-35, M
@whowasthatmaskedman we could resort to eating dead humans? Not my prefered option.
Instead id convert the moon into a cemetary (lunar gardens on the far side) and the near death star (a retirement home) on the near side. Is ideal.

Nobody owns the moon...
As far as I know.

sree251 · 41-45, M
@Sidewinder And how much do you know?
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
@sree251 I know a thing or two.
For instance, I know that unlike the Earth, the Moon is uninhabited, therefore it's very unlikely that anyone owns it.

@Sidewinder
There was a time when the wild west - anywhere west of the MIssissippi - was uninhabited. Now, everyone owns a piece of it.

Dark side of the moon belongs to Pink Floyd
LeopoldBloom · M
I support a moon colony if Musk pays for it and lives there.
sree251 · 41-45, M
@LeopoldBloom We are talking about a moon-based, nuclear-armed military platform for surveillance and control of Earth.

@sree251 only a small portion of the world finds that philosophy to be defensible. The aggressive part.

Philosophy is of the mind while territoriality is a basic instinct.

Nunki · 31-35, F
I mean why didn’t they go back to the moon. It’s been 55 years goddammit
ImperialAerosolKidFromEP · 51-55, M
@Nunki the real question is why they went to the moon in the first place: politics
swirlie · F
The USA never actually went to the moon in 1969. That was all BS. None of it happened.
LeopoldBloom · M
@swirlie Then why didn’t the USSR expose us? It would have been incredibly embarrassing.
swirlie · F
@LeopoldBloom
For the USSR to expose the USA, would expose the USSR's truth that they never even tried to get there.

@LeopoldBloom Nobody believes the Russians. US propaganda has baked it into our heads.
swirlie · F
America does not have domination of the moon. Don't be so arrogant.
