True. Project 2025 would cut massive benefits for veterans. And it's not like this is new. Republicans always vote against bills that would help veterans.

@BohemianBabe Agenda 2030 curtails national sovereignty in some respects and places nation-states in a subservient role to the wider international community. Obviously that could be good or bad, depending on the country, but if you believe in national sovereignty it is mostly bad.

It's also not going to happen, because it's a conservative boogeyman, the UN doesn't have the muscle or authority to implement it in the United States, just like Republicans don't have the muscle or authority to implement Project 2025.

That pretty much just sounds like the UN. I do believe in national sovereignty, but we also need international laws or at least international agreements. Especially considering pollution is destroying the Earth, which we all live on, regardless of country.

just like Republicans don't have the muscle or authority to implement Project 2025.

Of course they do. Schedule F is pretty much the exact same way checks and balances were eliminated in Russia, Hungary, and Turkey. This is a blueprint that has worked three times in a relatively short time span.
After the Republicans have full unchecked control of congress, there would be no legal methods to stopping the rest of Project 2025.

@Doskvol I hope that this doesn’t happen why should we take orders from a bad agency
We foot the bills for? Your Demi-rats are evil
Sleazy wimps the sovereignty of this country is gone with a wide open border bydone has violated his oath and the constitution
(By the way it’s not a “living document “either…

IDK enough about Project 2025 to comment on it (yet) BUT....

I do know that Paul Ryan (when he held power as speaker of the house) made an attempt to kill off/monkey with Veterans benefits including retirement pay, medically retired pay and survivors benefits.

My view is that if congress wants to save money, they should clean their own house first. Saying that any former military did not "earn" their retirement/survivors compensation is just another slap in the face.

Simply put: "PAY ME THE PITTANCE THAT YOU PROMISED ME AND STOP TRYING TO CONSTANTLY ERODE IT...."
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Threepio And yet Paul Ryan and Liz Cheney are now considered rational Republican leftists. Go figure......😷

Has she read the 2025 Presidential Transition Project (its full name) and the web-site of the Heritage Foundation that published it?

Perhaps that is where she obtained her information. Whether she interpreted it correctly is a different matter.

Whether Mr. Trump would follow it if he becomes President again, is yet another different matter. I have no idea if he has claimed he will.

If you need know what someone has really said, you need read that source, whether you agree or disagree with their ideas. Not rely on what others might want you to believe they said.

(I have read that HF material so I have some idea of its general nature, ideology and aims.)

@Heartlander Yes, understood one has to qualify for certain benefits. My husband was in Vietnam and has issues from that war, he gets a military ck, my SIL was in the Airforce for 24 years and gets a pension. She is worried about it being taken away if 2025 gets implemented.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@aradia11 I agree - though as a foreigner I don't want to risk taking sides in the USA's domestic politics.

Having some idea of what is happening is one thing but it's not for me to support or disagree with either Party.

What do matter though, are the nation's foreign policies.

I suppose a parallel here is that during the campaigns before our own recent General Election I did read all the candidates' material, not just the one I might support.... or at least support more than the rest!
Heartlander · 80-89, M
@aradia11 I don’t think that military pensions have anything to do with VA benefits. Military pensions are calculated as a % of base pay through a formula similar to how social security payments are calculated.

For VA benefits, I don’t think anyone would dare take away benefits for service related issues. Some benefits are means tested, simply to provide a special rescue net for those who served. I did 10 years USAF, half active, half ready reserves. So not nearly enough for a pension, but still likely some VA benefits.

Obviously your sister has found one of the mainstream news channels, such as ABC, MSNBC, or CNN. Either that, or she has found some freaky deaky social media site somewhere that is disseminating truly fake misinformation.
Nanoose · 61-69, M
Well tell your sister in law that Nanoose agrees with her. And maybe for a hoot ask her if she found Trump’s Tic Tac inflation speech funny (funny strange not funny ha ha). Cheers!

whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
Whether she is right or wrong, it is wrong that she is more afraid of Trump than he is of her. She is a the one with the power to keep him out..😷
TDS..

Pure Democrat propaganda.

All these folk didn't spend all this time and energy conjuring up this manifesto for it to sit on the shelf. Ofc they intend to use it.
The Project2025 agenda might well include that.
DDaverde · 61-69, M
I certainly do not and besides
It doesn’t work well .

@cherokeepatti When we lived in Phoenix AZ ..That VA was about the worst! I too remember Agents from Washington and media etc, surrounding the Hospital. I suppose it improved some. I live in Mississippi now and the VA here is much better. I also can't see where Veterans w Pensions and disability income csn have it taken away. That's what my SIL n husband were taking about..
