Why don’t House Republicans want a elect a speaker of the house?

Would they rather show their inability to organize and elect than show any sign of competency?
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
Democrats make a giant fuss about "protecting democracy" but apparently they don't know it when they see it.
@SumKindaMunster Nobody is saying that the chaos the Republicans displayed in picking a speaker wasn't democracy in action. I don't recall too many Democrats complaining about it.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@LeopoldBloom No? Must just be me then. Being a loyal Democrat yourself, I wouldn't expect you to note hypocrisy or criticism towards their actions.
@SumKindaMunster Can you quote any prominent Democrats who complained about the disarray among the Republicans? Unless you're talking about people complaining that without a Speaker, Congress can't address any of the pressing issues the country is facing. The fact remains that the Republicans brought the chaos on themselves.
spjennifer · 56-60, T
Well, the simple fact of the matter is that Republicans have a House Majority. If the Repugs aren't able to cooperate together to elect a Speaker, how the hell are they planning to Govern the Nation, if they are ever Elected again? I see Right Wingers on here blaming the Democrats, the Democrats are in no way beholden to vote for a Republican Speaker, which shows in their unanimous support for Jeffries, at least THEY are United. So place the blame where it belongs, solely on the Republicans and their radical 8...

@SumKindaMunster I am not sure what you expect me to say. We all had to Google him to find out who he is. His background is very far right.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@samueltyler2 Hm yes, you never mentioned whom you were speaking of. I was sort of hoping you could have explained that.

At this point, I got the context and understand you mean the new Speaker.

I'm sorry you're disappointed as to what you read. It would be nice to speak to people who review their comments and ensure they make sense and their point is made clear without having to ask multiple times to clarify.

Thank you.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@SumKindaMunster you are welcome.
Elect a clown, expect a circus. With the decision to make Trump the leader of the GOP, the entire party has become a shitshow.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
If you look at the roster, many still will not admit that the 2020 election was valid and that tRump lost, despite the 3 senior attorneys who have now admitted their guilt. The republican party has made its bed, unfortunately, the entire country is suffering.
@sunsporter1649 According to that book, what is American Marxism?
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@ElwoodBlues And that from somebody who does not know what a woman is....
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
Thats a "Yes".. As much damage as Republicans can do to the government in Washington they are doing more damage to themselves with the voters, with this Trump rubbish and with their antics over the speaker, plus other ludicrous policy proposals..😷
Makes you wonder what is worse. A vacant seat or the role taken by someone who denies objective reality.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow they can't legally function without a speaker.
@samueltyler2 True. But would they be any more functional with someone like Marjorie Taylor Greene at the helm?
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow no one, the question now, is the rule allowing recall going to stand, so if any member is upset, he trumble like McCarthy did?
KunsanVeteran · 61-69, M
They’re going with their strengths—losing!
JSul3 · 70-79
Election denier Mike Johnson (LA.) elected Speaker of the House by the Party of Trump, formerly known as the GOP.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
KunsanVeteran · 61-69, M
@JSul3 This, too, will fail.

Just give it time.
spjennifer · 56-60, T
zonavar68 · 51-55, M
GOP's want to maintain a handle of control over the executive level of government because Don Juan Trumpanzee lucked out when the Big Lie got exposed as a Mike Lindell scam that resulted in a domestic terrorism event.
JSul3 · 70-79
Never forget: Steve Bannon stated that the goal was to deconstruct the federal government.

Stopping the function of the House is just a piece of the plan.
KunsanVeteran · 61-69, M
@JSul3 Not a very good plan, but “their” plan nonetheless.
JSul3 · 70-79
Mike Johnson...the new MAGA choice.
Johnson, unlike Emmer, is known to be a Trump ally and was a staunch defender of the former president during the impeachment hearings. He led the amicus brief signed by more than 100 House Republicans in support of a Texas lawsuit seeking to overturn the 2020 election results in four swing states (Axios).
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@JSul3 yes, he is a deep seated MAGA nutcase. He should be called an insurgent and be stopped from even serving in Congress, let alone being a leader.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@JSul3 Gee, you left-wing nut-job marxists sure are scared of somebody throwing your sorry asses out on the street

The minority is waiting for the majority to get desperate, and then get someone like jim ass hole jordan as speaker. Democrats should nominate Tom Emmer for speaker, he woild probably garner 300 votes.
KunsanVeteran · 61-69, M
@ilikeitlikethat23 Of course any self respecting, reasonable, intelligent Republican would do just that
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@KunsanVeteran I am afraid the republican party has always been a bit different, but now the party that could often be seen working to better the country, only seems to want to bring down the country!

firefall · 61-69, M
avoids taking unpopular votes on issues, but still blocks the things they want to block, so ... trying to avoid electoral responsibility for their policy choices .e.g government shutdown.

TBH the Media are so stupid, they may well make that work
justanothername · 51-55, M
@firefall Not sure how Republicans not voting on a speaker of the house behind closed doors is the medias fault.
firefall · 61-69, M
@justanothername the way the resulting chaos gets reported as 'Democrats dont support a Republican speaker'
justanothername · 51-55, M
@firefall Either way it sounds like no one is supporting him.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
They aren’t very interested in governing.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
democrats at a vote in congress....
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
From what I've seen lately only a couple can even function
KunsanVeteran · 61-69, M
@Virgo79 …and even those are only hitting on one, maybe two cylinders…

@KunsanVeteran mostly, our gov is fu-up

@KunsanVeteran yes they are cross eyed and have pointed ears. Inbred
Dysfunction is no government - other than war and prison. Americans accept that. B
They are, quite literally, a house divided.
justanothername · 51-55, M
@LordShadowfire It certainly would appear that way.
